            the riders were told that "true" street
tricks would be judged highest-funny
considering the course was predomi-
nantly made up of quarterpipes.
Regardless, people still did their thing.
Standouts included Karma Tsocheff, who
broke the top ten, Omar Hassan, who
worked the big ledge with 5-0s, Chad
Fernandez, who barely missed the finals,
and Jaya Bonderov, Kenny Anderson, and
Geoff Rowley, who each took a more
street-oriented approach to the course.
Other big guns included Kris Markovich,
who whipped out noseblunt slides across
the quarterpipe bank ensemble, and Steve
Caballero, who barged the steep handrail
down the big bank with a frontside 50-50.
With consistent runs and the ability to
mix flatground into his lines, it seemed
pretty much settled that Willy Santos had
this contest in the bag. But after failing to
