Vans
make the nosegrind across the
long flat bar in either of his final
runs, the door was ajar for Tim
Brauch, who waltzed in and
snatched the fifteen grand. If
you've seen Tim skate before,
you know what he can do to a
quarterpipe. Add all those blunt
variations to a 50-50 down the
big rail, a frontside 50-50 to
frontside nosebone in across
the pyramid ledge, plenty of
speed and lots of pushing, and
you've got the winning run.
Congratulations, Tim.
Vert was next, and if the street
course was a little lackluster, the
vert ramp more than made up for it.
Instead of one really wide ramp,
two slightly thinner ones were posi-
tioned side by side at a 15-degree
angle, creating a hip on one wall
and a gap of death on the other.
Tricks over the gap of death includ-
ed melon 540's (Macdonald), alley-
oop heelflip Indys (Lincoln), no-
handed kickflips and backside tail-
slides (Rune), bomb drops (Crum),
backside nosegrinds (Bob), Smith
grind reverts (Gentry), feeble grinds
(Omar), and front foot impossibles
to lien (Mathias). Other than that,
you should know about Bob's line,
the winning part of which was a
frontside invert followed by a 360°
egg followed by a slob frontside gay
twist followed by 360 backside
ollie over the hip followed by a
frontside Cab. It just couldn't be
beat. Bob won the event (for the
second year in a row) as well as the
series, for a grand total of $20,000
in vert alone (he also probably won
some cash in street).
Immediately after the vert finals
was Best Trick, which Tony Hawk
easily snagged with an ungodly varial
720. It should be noted that Hawk
did not compete in the regular con-
test due to some scheduling conflicts
with a commitment he had in Japan.
Bob also grabbed some cash with a
one-footed backside Smith grind
revert, as did Bucky, who stuck the
elusive Indy 720° to fakie.
Contests might not matter any-
more, but as long as they're coughin'
up the kind of cash they had at the
Hard Rock finals, they're not going to
die too soon either.

Are you kidding? This shit was
made for Omar Hassan! Five-o
with authority. Barely recov-
ered from his birthday party
the night before, Rune
Glifberg kickflipped the gap
during a commercial break.
