DOWN TIME
The other night I had the most tripped-
out dream. I was skating through a cave
and came upon an underground stream. I
tried to ollie over it, but my back trucks hit
the edge, and I
kicked my board
backwards into the
stream. The current
caught it, and it start-
ed floating down-
stream into another
part of the cave. I
didn't want to get my
shoes wet, so I did a
handstand and start-
ed walking through
the water towards
my board. When I
got to the end, I
found all these other
boards of skaters.
who bailed and
unsuccessfully jumped the stream. Then
these weird, fluffy, pink and purple ostrich-
looking animals started chasing me, and I
had to stomp on them to get them to go
away. What do you think it all means?

More than likely it is due to your "extreme"
lifestyle choice. The water is success, the shoes
symbolize materialism, and the pink and
purple birds obviously pertain to the fact that
you ate some funky chicken. T-ed
KNOCK DOWN
In regards to the April '97 Mic-E
Reyes "Time Machine," what I want to
know is, what about all the men he's
slept with? I'm sure that number is up
there. It's nice to see that you still give
props to all the "old school" skaters. Or
should I say "dried up" skaters?

GROWN UP
I spent a few years in lockdowns of dif-
ferent types: deten-
tions, institutions,
group homes, partial
programs... I just want-
ed to be myself and
find my own way. My
family never support-
ed me, and I didn't
have any true friends.
I'm 20 now, I have my
own place, a finance,
my own life lived by
my rules. Instead of
having a family mem-
ber to look to for support, inspiration and
guidance, I have skating and punk/hard-
core. In the past, I tried to prove myself to
everyone. I made a lot of stupid choices
and critical mistakes. I didn't really know
what it was all about: staying true and hav-
ing fun. All those guys I used to hang with
are gone. They quit skating and listening
to the music, just left it all behind. But not
me. I'm still here, staying true to who I am.
Being involved in this scene doesn't just
make you a skater or a punk or whatever,
it's beyond all those stupid labels. It's
something real, something inside of you.
It's not just what you are, it's who you are.
There's a reason why you're read-
ing this mag. Don't ever forget
what it is.

HIS STORY
Why do we put so much.
importance on life? In 100-200
years, only 2 or 3 people will
I even know that you existed,
unless you do something totally
incredible. No one will care that
your mom died when you were lit-
tle, or that you broke your leg
when you were 5, or that your sis-
ter had learning disabilities, or that
your wife left you for another man,
or that you got cancer from smoking and
died a painful death. No one will give a
shit. For the most part, people suck.
Everyone wants to get married to the
perfect wife, have 1 daughter and 1 son, a
nice house with a white picket fence and
central heating, a car and a minivan, a dog
that never barks at night, maybe a couple
goldfish. They want nice neighbors who
won't keep them up at night, and to live
in a section of town where there is no
crime. You know what I say to that pile of
crap? Fuck it all. You can tell the "perfect
wife" who is cheating on you, the kids who
hate your guts, the house that has termites,
the white picket fence that fell over, the
central heating that costs too much, your
vehicles that break down every month, the
dog that just ate your shoe and pissed on
the floor, the goldfish floating at the top of
the bowl, the neighbors that spy on you,
and the crackhouse across the street to Go
To Hell. I don't want any of that crap.
Don't I have a right to want something dif-
ferent? Or has America trampled the word
"individuality" into oblivion on their way
to buy their "Tickle Me Elmo" dolls?
