Adams never gave
a flying fuck about any of it. "I just wanted to kick back and have
fun," is all he'll say about that so-called "squandered potential."
Things like the 1974 national title which many felt he won (but didn't
get) at the Bahne Cadillac contest are of no interest to him. The
point is, Jay's always been a heavy influence on a lot of people, guys
who feel there's no one more original. Watch Agah, Cardiel or
Speyer skate and see a number of moves which Adams pioneered.
Legit vertical airs in pools will serve as an example. Go to any beach
and there are water tracks being carved that Jay thought up long,
At the legendary Dog Bowl, a clenched fist emerges from the concrete sea as Jay
(opposite top) slams a vert bert in 77. Maximum compression session at the
extremely vert Oxnard halfpipe (left) in '78. A full house pool party in West LA is
the site of this punishing double axle thrust (above) in '78.
