through the neighborhood and made
three or four stops to pick up more
skaters. We went, we saw, and the
demo kicked. They did the sticker
and t-shirt thing. Christian flew just
as high as ever, but "Skate Gram"
was the coolest. She deserves
applause and thanks. Some kids
harass older people, but they better
be careful. They might not see the
next demo.

HEAVY VIBES
I've been skating for about 5½
months and there are a few tricks that
I won't be able to do until I lose about
45 pounds, but that's not exactly
what I'm writing about. I'm sick of all
the other skaters putting me down
about my weight and my skating. I
skate as hard as I can, and I'm
continuing to get better little by little.

FACE FACTS, FELLOWS
I've been a skater for about 2½
years. I recently moved to a small
town where there are quite a few
skaters who have been giving me a
lot of problems. The reason is I'm a
girl. I don't think those guys have
room to say I can't skate. I've noticed
that I can skate a lot better than some
guys. The other day I went to a
contest offered by some local skaters
in Phoenix, and guess who won
second place? That's right, yours
truly. Besides winning a trophy, $100
and a new Tony Hawk board. I also
proved that I can thrash just as good
as the guys. Also, I'm moving back
to the place I lived near Phoenix,
where I'll be treated as a skater.

JUST SKATE; A MORAL
It was about 4:30 one evening
when my friend Jason and I got tired
of skating. So we went looking for
trouble. We had about $1.00 and
some change so we went into this
supermarket and bought some eggs.
We had the eggs with us and were
sitting behind this trashbin in an alley."

hit this red car. It stopped instantly.

Jason was in front of me going toward
the other end of the alley. Without
looking he flew into the middle of the
street, getting hit by a car. All I can
remember is seeing his head
smashing against the road over and
over again in my mind. Three hours
later he died in Holzer Hospital. Now
I'm not allowed to skate, and really
nobody does anymore. This story is
true and I wish you would please
print it.

TURF LUCK
I was observing the skaters at a
new park, THE TURF. The owner
kicked this totally rad dude out for
telling some guy about the new surf
shop he was opening. A week later
he wouldn't even let this other guy
join who I know has been working at
a skate shop for a long time. Beware
shop employees and manufacturers.
this owner is giving competition and
skateboarding a bad name in the
Midwest. Maybe he should turn the
park back into an all-nude strip joint
again.

MR. SKATE-DOG TO YOU
I'm writing to let my fellow skaters
know a fact. You never know how
important your stick is until you're
without it for a long period of time.
I tried suicide. Now I'm in a hospital.
I tried it because of all the put-downs
I received from people. Most of the
put-downs were about being a skater.
A "skate-dog" as those assholes
would put it. But let me tell you it's
not worth it. No one has the right to
put you down because of what you
do. It's been over a month, and I have
another month to go. Don't try it, it's
dumb. Live to skate, skate to live..
