(From page 53) at about 8:40. Gator was
schralping because he had just gotten back
his lost luggage. Hosoi and Grosso were
pulling every trick in the book and making
the crowd delirious. Jason and I did liptricks
and slide variations. Again, we didn't get to
warm up and again the ramp demo only
lasted roughly twenty minutes. We made up
for it by giving our boards away and having
a gigantic promotion toss. The kids went
wild. I gave my THRASHER sweatshirt to
a bloke, then invited him and his friend over
to party. I would later regret this.
When we got back to the hotel, we par-
tied with Shane, Darrell, two girls and two
blokes. We talked about America, skating
and politics. Hosoi and Gator went to see
INXS. Shane made some calls to find some
stuff, then Keenan, Jason, Shane and I tub-
ed to Brixton. The Gonz and Grossman
stayed behind with the girls and bros.
As we skated, I tried to grind the edge of
the electric tracks. I lost my board, then
jumped into the path of an oncoming train
to retrieve it. I didn't want it to break. The
train screeched to a halt and the engineer.
angrily cussed me out. He wouldn't let
anybody on or off the train. Everybody
stared at us. So we exited stage right.
We met Crispin and Co. at an abandon-
ed skatepark. There were a couple of large
banked snake runs. The boys from Scotland
were ripping fast lines, while Crispin and Co.
got air outta the bowl. I just watched
⚫because it was too cold to move. Keenan
lost some skin. Jason followed the locals
with style and grace. We had to get back
because Grosso was waiting. We thanked
Crispin and Co. and tubed it back to our
hotel. When we returned, Grosso had pass-
ed out, the dudes were gone and the girls
were fast asleep.
When we woke up the next morning.
some of Gator's equipment was missing.
The girls hadn't taken anything because
they were still here, as well as Shane. That
left only two people who had been here last.
night, and I had given them the shirt off my
back. We were all bummed. All of us tried
to recollect the events of the night before.
You were innocent until proven guilty, but
we all had the same gut feeling.
We spent all day shopping at Kings Road,
Carnaby Street and Kensington Market.
Grosso got a black leather while Jason.
bought more Docs. When I ran into Christ,
he had at least twenty t-shirts. I got a gold
fringed leather jacket. One way or another
we all managed to get separated from each
other. I took a cab back to the Royal Scot
and found everybody showing off their ear-
ly Christmas presents. We sat around and
critiqued our trip while watching Batman
reruns. We had all spent the rest of our
moms' wedding rings on a bad trip.
INTERVIEW NO AGE
(From page 5e) to skate well. I make hundreds
of thousands of dollars at it. Skate-
boarding has nothing to do with enjoy-
ment, that's for sure.
You must live in a penthouse.
I've got many homes. My favorite home
is in Elko, Nevada, where I spend most of
my time. I have an adobe house in
Arizona's Grand Canyon and one in New
Dehli, India.
How many times have you been in jail?
How many players on a hockey team, pal?
For what reasons?
All the same charge.
Can the odor from your skate gear
really stop a charging pig?
Yes. I was doing a demo for the queen in
Borneo and a boar burst beastfully out of
the bushes. As he was bearing down on
me, I whipped off my my kneepads, thus
repelling him instantly and saving
everyone. I have refused to wash them
since that incident.
How many people have you speared
and have you ever done it purposely?
National Enquirer got me enraged once.
so I purposely shot my skateboard into
the shins of one of their photographers.
I've heard that you party with the likes
of Dennis Hopper, Don Johnson,
Mickey Rourke, Tom Cruise and Charo?
Definitely. Whenever I'm in their town, I
look 'em up. 'Cause we come from the
same school of life. Last time I did a
demo at the Crystal Room on top of the
Hyatt Regency in San Fran I put 'em on
the list. They came in. I opened for
Englebert. It was a great show,
champagne brunch, everything.
What do you think of young budding
skaters who flourish in the streets
today?
I didn't even know they were out there.
You're a professional, making a lot of
money. Why don't you compete?
Why should I?
Why do you choose to remain
unknown?
I haven't really chosen it. The corporate
skateboard moguls are afraid of me.
They're very frightened that I'll somehow
sabotage their whole scene.
Any closing comments or words of
inspiration to the readers?
Readers? Hey, what are you talking
about, man? Is that a tape recorder?
Now everyone's gonna know the secrets
for ultimate success. There ain't enough
room up here at the top for anyone but
me! If you print this, the whole structure
of modern skate society might reach utter
collapse. I'll be the keystone exposed!
Just like handing out God's phone
number. You're a dead man....
(Sounds of struggle for the remaining
twenty minutes of tape.)
WHERE THERE IS NOTHING.
ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN.
