PARKING
TAHITI
THE TAKEOVER OF AN ISLAND
(From page 49) pulled into the center of the
parking lot. The crowd pushes in even closer.
Tin-Tin and Sick Boy arrange the two Evil
Knevil ramps on each side of the car and then
dear a path long enough to achieve necessary
launch speed. F-Stop pushes through the crowd
with Miss Jamet in tow.
F-Stop: "Sit here." Hinirava: "Je ne com-
prends pas" F-Stop: "Uh...no problem,
restez id."
Miss Jamet looks more than a little worried
as she lays down on the car between the two
ramps. Her green eyes flash nervously as the
crowd's hoots reach a deafening level. Sick
Boy drops his arms and starts pushing down
the runway. Full pandemonium is evident as
Sick Boy grabs his rail and takes to the friendly
skies. Miss Jamet tries to shrink, cameras dick,
jaws drop and Sick Boy lands solidly. He is
instantly mobbed by hoards of autograph-
seekers and well-wishers. Everyone is smiling
as the music rages on.
DAY FIVE: THE BURNT DAY
The Sick One is in a burnt-out mood. Skating
is out of the question until the 4:00 p.m.
demo at Euromarche. F-stop, however, is run-
ning around like a headless chicken because
he is screening his film this evening. Tin-Tin
and Sick Boy snorkel for hours in the crystal
dear 74° water. When Tin-Tin looks at his
dock, he notices that the demo is scheduled
to begin in forty minutes. As he walks along
the topless beach, skating is the furthest thing
from Sick Boy's mind. The tight schedule of
events prevails and Tin-Tin and Sick Boy arrive
at the demo to discover quite the harsh realm.
First, the tape player on the sound system
and blasts the general public with the premiere
of his film. The movie is well received despite
some complaints that the music was too hard
and too loud.
Tin-Tin: "Poor babies."
DAY SIX: ANOTHER DEMO
Another 4:00 show at Euromarche, only this
time things are set up right and Robert Tanseau
lets the crowd know that if there is no applause,
there
is no skating. Tunes are unleashed and
Sick Boy rages hard for an appreciative
audience. This just goes to show how important
music really is. After the demo, Tin-Tin and
Sick Boy arrive at the theater to see how the
film screening went. F-Stop is bending hard
and says that over 125 people swindled into
the show.
F-Stop: "Damn that rock-headed guard. I
was getting ready and he didn't even stop
'em." Sick Boy: "That's so harsh." F-Stop:
"No, I usually lose eight hundred dollars a
night."
It's moments like these that drive men to
drinking. Edwin at the Too Much lets the trio
in for free and F-Stop's anger is semi quelled
by the complimentary beverages. Edwin's a bra.
DAY SEVEN: THE LAST DAY
The hell bell on the alarm clock rudely
awakens Sick Boy on his last day. It's movie
time at 7:00 a.m., and Sick Boy dutifully
performs wall rides and other assorted moves
of the street for the ravenous lens of F-Stop.
At 9:00 it's off to Waikiki Beach, a Tanseau
owned store, to sign autographs. At 10:00,
the fourth and last demo must be dealt with.
Ironically, the last demo is at the Vaima Center
and is being paid for by the same man who
shunned the crew five days earlier. Weak music
prevails again but the demo is deemed a
success. Later, driving down the main road
of Papeetee, everyone waves at the amazing
Sick Bay. There is no doubt that if he ran
for mayor, he would surely win. The paper
reads "Skate Mania is Born." The island has
been transformed and everywhere one looks

is down and as such, sessioning will now occur
to Euro-French disco. In addition, the whole
area is covered with tiny rocks. After cleaning
the area, Sick Boy schralps a huge frontside
wall ride on a hatefully rough wall. No one
claps, no one smiles, no one moves and soon
no one wants to skate. It was a disappointing
demo for Sick Boy.
Back at Mamou Palace F-Stop has achieved
worp foctor nine. He turns on the projector
there is a kid on a crusty skate that hasn't
seen the street for ten years or more. The
art of skating will be raging hard in this tropical
zone in the years to come. As they drive out
of town in the direction of the airport, the
threesome feels that the takeover is complete
Special thanks must go out to Raymond Leau,
Robert Tanseau, Cyril Lehartel, Joelle Lellouche,
Edwin Aline at Too Much, Louis, Jakie, Moe
and Rolan at the ramp and Hinirava Jamet.
