RASH ON BOARD
CARS OF THE STARS DEPT.
Sometime in the not so distant past a
now defunct skate publication devoted
countless paragraphs to the motor vehicles
owned by assorted skate celebrities.
Realizing that this is a hardcore skate
zine-rather than a mass-media rag-
Thrasher would of course never stoop to
such ultra low levels. However in the
interest of improving the plight of pro-skat-
ers everywhere the Trashmen will now
reveal some of the skate industrialists
newer cars. (Realize that the sole reason
we do this is so that enterprising skaters
can use these esoteric tidbits as bargaining
points when renegotiating their contracts.)
Honestly the low voltage buzz created by
such cheap insulting gossip is of no
interest to us whatsoever, (and if you
believe that you probably read some other
rag and have picked up this vile zine by
mistake. Now Big Dick Novak's been
rolling in his Mercedes for years. His
friends in the industry seem to be joining
the Benz ranks in increasing numbers, (no
doubt due to Dick's charismatic overdrive.)
Last seen in an immaculate early sixties
MB sportscar was that creative skate
journalist Mrs. Peggy Another leader in
the Stutgart sweepstakes is Disco Brad
Dorfman who at last count had a couple of
Benzs' parked alongside the Cadillac
convertible. Brad is so obsessed with
capturing the ultimate Benz that he
reportedly gave one of his old Caddys
away to an indignant artist. Not to be
outdone, that everpopular man about
Jaks, ridin wild style.
town, Fausto, recently acquired a '67
Ferrari as a garagemate for the new
corporate '63 Coupe de Ville convertible.
Foundryman Big E's sporting a newly
frame up restored '56 Chevy, while Tracker
Larrys got so many cars planted in front of
his Oceanside HQ. that he can't even get
to his Lamborghini in order to cruise. Tony
Hawk's currently mobile in a Honda but
we're certain that with some more tutoring
from the Porsche addicted McGill and
Ruff things could quickly change. Currently
the coolest car in the sport is driven by
Steve Steadham. His peacock blue
Lincoln Continental Mark V with shag
covered dash is a true Betty pleaser.
THE "YOU CAN CHANGE THE COURSE
OF HISTORY, DEPT.
Inside sources relate that an expanded,
streamlined, modernized contest format
series is in the process of being formed.
This potential series sounds to be very
similar in its nature to the now legendary
Henry Hester series. As you probably
remember the Hester series, basically
inaugurated the sports' modern competi-
tive era. When old "Bad H" ran things
quality judging, big crowds, unreal skating
and major media coverage were the rule.
So whose going to administrate this much
fabeled new series? The word is that this
key position is up for grabs, a multitude of
young contest promoters have thrown their
hats into the ring alongside the top hats of
several well known established competi-
tion organizers.
RUMORS
Rumored to be going solo commercially
is the erudite Christian Hosol. The word
on the streets that an entire Christ cen-
tered company is in the offing. Also alleged
to be expanding his frontiers is Steve
Olson. Apparently the S.O.S.scene will
be more aggro in the future.
And while we are talking com-
mericialism: apparently Alva skates are
becoming the in stick" in the frozen north.
Massive numbers of boards have been
spotted in unlikely snowbound places such
as Canada. Perhaps the word is out
regarding the future development of the
Kodiak, Alaska skatepark.
MEDICAL CENTER DEPT.
Mike McGill is back on track and has
been seen working out now moves on a
very secluded jungle enshrouded Florida
ramp. Also said to be nearly healed and
headed for America is the highly touted
German air ace Claus Grabke, Injured
(again) but on the road to recovery is the
Jersey Devil, Tom Groholski. And while
we're mired in the emergency room there's
still time to enter the Lance Mountain
Father of the Year Pool. Yes sports fans
simply guess 1) date, weight, length, sex
etc. and win substantial cash reward for
the correct answers. Hint-she hasn't had it
as of this writing. For entry info contact
anyone of Mountain's publically anonym-
ous friends. (However be forewarned don't
ever give your hard earned cash to Spidey
BIG BUCKS CONTEST DEPT.
Rumors continually fly conceming the
possiblity of somebody throwing a
megabucks media event skate off. The
lastest said to be interested in such
sponsorship is Ocean Pacific
Sportswear. These boys reportedly
grossed about 286 million bucks last year
and having drastically curtailed their
professional surfing sponsorship they are
searching for other mags to promote their
products. Since the close friend and
confident of OP mainman Jim Jenks is
none other than Allan Seymoure, (the
promoter of the legendary Catalina
Classic), it doesn't take a genius to figure
out the rest.
MYSTERY TREND DEPT.
There appears to be a movement about
to create some original skate oriented
clothing. An assortment of individuals
including G. and S., Baja South, Madrats,
Sundeck, SIO, Vision, Jimmy Z, Catchit,
Town & Country etc are reportedly in the
research and development stage of such
artifacts. Is it possible that the mondo firm
OP is intent on moving in on this as yet
untapped urban sports market. Speaking
of fashion, Larry Gordon, the scion of G/S
land was recently contacted by Paris
Vogue magazine. It seems the Fran-
cophiles desired some authentic clothing.
