Another venture into the world of
seven inch spinning madness. This
time, the journey takes us to Ger-
many with a hot and hungry release
by the Upright Citizens, which in
fact was actually put out in Sweden.
Thundering with ravenous power,
Germany's Upright Citizens pro-
duce their finiest release to date.
Five songs driving a mature affec-
tive approach, that has a very for-
ward quality of speed, ambitious
guitar work, distinctive bass ham-
mering and steady drum beats. A
hoarse growling vocalist spits out

featuring nice acoustic guitar work, a
different type of punk melody, more
in the flavor of the Alarm, a bold
change of pace. "Right Way,
"Bombs of Peace," and "Dead

attack of raiding rhythms, intense
and quick. The Upright Citizens are
a smooth quality outfit, watch for

THE FACTION
DARK ROOM
IM RECORDS
The dudes from skaterville strike
again! This 12 45 rpm slab 'o wax is
their best yet. The band has two new
members which really fills out their
sound. The title track is medium fast
and kind of eerie. In fact, the whole
thing has an edge to it. The tension
builds in all the songs except "Lets
Go Get Cokes which is the Fac
tion's tribute to that dark brown,
murky bev erage Cokes' is a
Faction classic, using sarcasm, wit
and basic chords (a la Sex Pistols)
to achieve a tearin' tune. Two other
stand-out songs on this ep. are
Tongue Like A Battering Ram
which is a blazing fast, guitar heavy
song about gicis who talk too much
and "You Are Here" which has a
great Big Boys type of break in the
middle of it Progression, not regres
sion, is what it's all about and "Dark

COCTEAU TWINS
"TREASURE
4AD RECORDS
BC.
Cast away into a calm bay of
water, as you float effortlessly upon
waves, watching the clouds slowly
drift by. In such a mild surrounding, a
musical selection that would en
hance the atmosphere would be the
delicate melodies of the Cocteau
Twins. "Treasure" is the Cocteau
Twins third album release and it
flows with beauty and distinction,
The ensemble performs haunting
harmonies of romantic flavor softly
dancing on the mind, with Elizabeth
Fraser's vocals oh so enticing in
glorious notes. She casts eerie little
spells of illuminated pleasure with
her echoing voice of enchantment.
Easy, and nicely performed, the
Cocteau Twins show off their
magnetic charisma in "TVO," "Pan
dora, Amelia, and the mystically
mellowness of Otterley, each
piece a work of art in its own right
Treasure" is the kind of album, deli-
cate with solid pleasure, it keeps the
flame alive and brings back those
unforgettable memories. An excel
lent effort, flawless in form and con-
tent.
ALIEN SEX FIEND
"ACID BATH"
ANAGRAM RECORDS
Psychotic little schizophrenic
doses of eorie madness all bound
together in loose pieces of horrorty-
ing delight. What's becoming known
as "Positive Punk, Alien Sex

forerunners of this new genre. "Acid
Bath is Allen Sex Fiend's second
platter release and your ears will
sense a sullen approach with a
poppy feel, yet a spooky charm that.
keeps it away from the norm. Pulsat-
ing rhythms made up of keyboards
creeping their way into the forefront,
and mind booming drum repititions,
keeping the beat at a steady slow.
moving dance beat. Yet the main at
traction is the worming terror of the
vocalist spitting out the moaning
vocals, worked in with special sound
effects. "Acid Bath features the hit
singles "EST-Trip to the Moon,"
and Dead and Buried, plus a host
of other dark delights. Modern chusic
for the horror movie of gorey splash-
ings and frightful screams, step into
a scare of new technology still hold-
ing the rock side of music. Invasion
of the Fiend is upon, beware of the
bats. Enjoy bloodsuckers
THE STALIN
"FISH INN
B.Q. RECORDS
Japan's the Stalin unleashed their
third album, yet this is a new Stalin
with only Michiroh, the vocalist, the
surviving member, Fish Inn is com
pletely different than the other Stalin
releases, much more in a slow driv
ing rocky beat than the thrashed out
for. Some of the energy seems to be
mayhem, the Stalin, became known
lacking and the song structure
doesn't work all that well. The com-
positions are more in a sullen "posi-
ve punk form, but not too poppy.
Has lots of small guitar whines and
leads, yet the songs travel too long
and lose the attention of the ear.
Other bands have done this ap-
proach much to their success, but
with the Stalin it doesn't work. "Fish
Inn has its moments, but overall not
a recommended vinyl release.
