Your breath gets deeper as you
thumb through these sacred pages
You find this section and you dive
headlong, absorbing the scraps of
information, trying to find something
that somehow, musically, relates to
you. Do you have particular musical
testes? Do you have taste? Do you
care (if you don't care, you wouldn't
be reading this, so the last question
is somewhat irrelevant)? Some of
you who live in somewhat culturally
saturated areas might look upon the
news in this column as passé. But
for those in somewhat land-locked
regions, or whatever, might find this
column (and the mag as a whole for
that matter) your only link to any
thing that has anything to do with
you. What do you think? Do you
think? There are some people who
say that most of you don't. Write in,
care of this column, and let us know
what, who, whom etc., you want to
hear more of. Do the same with ey.

Now, what about this?.... Some of
you might have noticed the pre-
sence of more and more METAL in
these pages. "HAVE WE GONE
LOCO? No. We just took a while
longer to realize and see past our
pissant inhibitions of one music and
one style only, that some of these
metal bands are sheer energy.
Edging into the metal-mania-
banging dept, comes word that
Mercyful Fate's U.S.A tour is blast-
ing ear drums with excitement. But
their recent first SF. show, was
classic as King Diamond, had
Metallica come up on stage, and
the foursome raged total havoc with
the massive headbanging, string de-
molishing and just sheer exuberant
chaos. At one point. Metallica bass
player stormed over to the grouping
50
at the end of a song, and acciden-
taly bumped into King Diamond,
knocking him down flat, which blew
the mike out and all the members
just left the stage. Stil it was a great
show. S.F.'s own Exodus soon to
have their own vinyl out, but this
powerhouse fivesome shatter the
metal barriers with their uproarious
attack. The Exodus fans are maniac
thrashers who wage utter chaos dur
ing each song. A definite show to
check out. Recently Exodus was
billed with Megadeath (who's LP will
be cut on Combat Records and it
was sheer Insanity, all bands raged
fully. Motorhead currently on tour in
the States with the new 4 piece and
on a different note, the new Alien
Sex Flend vinyl is an 11 record.
Yes eleven inches, enough to de-
stroy those programmed 12" stylus
guides. Another collectible innova-
tion.
...NEWS FROM PHILADELPHIA
(And other assorted areas)
Well, it happened at last. The East
Side Club, one of the last staples of
new and alternative music in
Philadelphia, has closed its doors at
last. Rumors abound as to why: pos
sible loss of liquor license, citations
for underage drinking, renovations
(which certainly were needed)...but
the fact of the matter is, with the East
Side closed-where to play??
Some considerations: The Ripley
