laughter. "When in Rome... picks
up where the Vandals last record left
off. It's the same sort of galloping.
wildly fast sing-a-long type of thang,
The Vandals nod to the ultra-
trendy scratchin/rap style with
Ladykiller which starts this vinyl pan-
cake off. It features Steve on scratch
box and whistle. (For those who
haven't seen these guys live: The
scratch box is a super-old record
player which is wired for sound and
strapped around Stevo's
neck.) The rap is hilarious and the
song funks right along
Other tracks include the classic
I'm a Fly and Master Race in Outer
Space which sound like Anarchy
Burger from their first release. Los of
whooping vocals and searing
guitars
These guys also do the ultimate
version of a Focus Song. Hocus
Pocus (74 progressive hit). If you're
at all familiar with it, you'll know that
the Vandals do it justice by destroy-
ing it. In fact they just about destroy
everything in sight-speakers, in-
hence the name THE VANDALS

the "Rock of the eighties format
radio stations with the song "Cow
Punk," isn't a San Francisco local,

The first side is mostly spoken,
poetry selections written by Henry
aged, or he's a poetic genius. The
Rollins. Either this guy is really dam-
stuff spewing from his mouth is pure
rage. Rage at normalcy, at society,
at people in general. Family Man on
one side, is a rant at the dull exis-
tence and pathetic attempts at survi
val of the common family man, most
of Henry's material is like this-bit-
ing and vicious
Most of the instrumentals resem-
ble Obliteration, which is on "Slip It

day, play as fast as the fingers can
move style, which adds to the disso-

Ever since Black Flag's legal
problems were cleared up, they
have been releasing loads of mate-
rial. All of it has been different and
struments, eardrums, frogs, etc... challenges the listener. They are

will blast a torrid attack of maniac
black metal, that grinds raw and de-
manding. Never has a metal band
exhibited such utter chaos that
thirsts on the horror driven by this
necromanic three piece. Snarling

howl in gloom laden speed. Hell-
hammer obviously inspired by
Venom and the speed of Discharge
do damage to the cranium capacity
with these four holocaustic out-
bursts. Side B moans with some
frenzied sullen Sabbath riffs in slow.

Beyond the barriers of brutal in-
tonseness, strikes the piledriving
blows of Canada's VoiVod Barbaric
black metal barbed with coarse voc-
als of desert warrior destruction
shower a madcap bombardment
that frightfully explodes into insane
lashing licks. Voivod's approach is

artistically. This is aggressive action
with sharp terrorizing fangs. Spon-
taneous, untamed numbers,
"Blower Iron Gang." "Warriors,"
and Black City" rip open the
wounds and lets the blood flow, in

works and scorches! The axe is
raised, a head is in the slot, and Voi-
vod are the deathdealers. The plum-
meting blade is the maniac music
that drops the blow. What an earful
