Say your names, so I can decipher this
recording at a later date.
P: My name is Phillip, the one with the
Welsh accent.
Oh. Well I can't tell the difference.
W: My name is Wurzel, I haven't been
feoling well. I just recently had my kidney
stones removed.
O.K. you're ill, and you are Welsh. Got
it, right? You guys have just recently
started up with the band, am I correct?
P: Yeah, about eight or nine months ago.
So, will this be your first gig ever with
Motorhead, or the first gig here in the
U.S.?
W: The first gig in the U.S. We've played all
over the world. We haven't done alot of
recording, we've done some but we've
been on tour.
P: We've done New Zealand, Australia,
Britain. Eastern Block, Finland....
What's the Eastern Block?
P: Hungary and Yugoslavia. We pulled in
27,000 in Hungary. It's a communist
country type. People came in from Poland
and Czechoslovakia.
That's insane. How long have you guys
been in the music business? Or better
said, how long into music profession-
ally?
W: Professionally, since the beginning of
this year. You know, with Motorhead
So prior to this you played a lot of club
stuff?
W: Anything. Parties and weddings
How about you?
P: This is my first Pro-band. Before this I
was in Semi-pro bands for ten or eleven
years.
So this Motorhead opportunity came up
and you guys went for it. Was it a big
change from what you were used to?
P: Yeah, it's more fun.
More wenches, broads, or whatever
you guys call them?
P: It looks like that tonight.
You looking forward to this gig tonight,
your first in the U.S.? Maybe a little
nervous, eh?
P: We've been in San Francisco for four
days. We were supposed to play yester-
day, but we didn't. We're all itching to go, I
can't wait to dive out onstage like. We'll
probably have a few problems, however,
wo'll just do our best."
Do you guys do any writing? Will you
play any new stuff tonight?
P: Yeah, three tonight. "Kill By Death"
we're doing off of 'No Remorse," "Steal
Your Face" and "Nothing up My Sleeve
which is a brand new song, which you
haven't heard yet. It could be the next
single, we don't know yet.
Phil
Lemmy
By Sir Geeky Dummy Sr.IV
Werzel
What's it like working for this real
famous guy, uh...uh.
P: & W: Lemmy!
Yeah, I forgot his name. I'm used to
names like John, Dave, Steve, Fred, Al,
etc.
W: It's great.
P: He's so easy to get along with. We all
live in the same house, the whole band, in
London. Well we live in different ones, but
when we're working, we all live in the same
one. He's so down to earth. He's stuck to
his guns through all the years. He's been in
the business for over twenty years.
He looks pretty seasoned.
P: He's got his feet firmly on the ground.
and he's just wonderful to work with. Lem
said that this is the first "Band" he's ever
played with...
W: He said to me, "Tve been looking for ten
years for a band like this."
P: Up until this line-up, Motorhead's
always been a three-piece. Now we're a
four piece, with more scope. There's more
to do with it, we're looking forward to some
good things.
Do you two contribute anything lyri-
cally, or musically?
W: Lem writes the lyrics
P: If we want to, we can write the lyrics as
well, but we can't write them as good as
Lem. So we leave it up to him. It's very
democratic. We could've joined this band
and Lem could've said, "You get X amount
of money a week, you do this, and do that."
But, he gives us a free hand.
W: It's very democratic. He said he could
teach us everything, as far as guitar parts
go, or we could just play what we wanted.
To the old songs you mean?
P: Yeah.
W: We'd play half of this the way it was,
and half of that totally different
P: Lyrically, the songs reflect Lem. Lem's
head. You see, it's impossible to tell
Lemmy and Motorhead apart. It's the same
thing.
How old are you Phillip?
P: Twenty-three.
And Werzyl?
W:Thirty five.
And you both are going into this band
with the heart and vigor of a twenty year
old, or fifteen year old?
W:Twelve.
How long of a set do you have.
P: An hour and twenty minutes. It's such
high energy, we put 170% into it.
And last but not least, the most impor-
tant question, where's your beer and
hors d'oeuvres?
P: & W: Get out of here!
