Most of the people who saw Bobby Valdez do the first hand-
plants, had to wipe their eyes and watch again, because they
couldn't believe what was going on. Then again it was the same
case with the ollie, the vertical layback, channel-airs, the
foot-plant and a variety of other tricks. All of these were new and
clever tricks, but the one thing they had in common,
was the fact that given some basic vertical
ability, most seasoned skaters
were able to adapt quickly to these tricks, and today they
comprise a novice's basic routine. But then, at the last Del Mar
contest, Mike McGill unveiled the ultimate trick, the 540°
McTwist. Word is, he makes 90% of his attempts at this trick.
Kasai and Hawk are already attempting it, but, as of this time,
have only succeeded a few times. Mike McGill's 540° McTwist,
easily the trick of 1984.
