GLOSSARY OF
SKATE TERMS
Here it is, skate pups, the original
THRASHER glossary of skate terms. Back
by popular demand, and the fact that new
skate terms appear almost as fast as new
freestyle tricks in Rodney Mullen's garage.
We see a lot of head scratching by
pedestrians (non-skaters) who read the
mag and just don't understand. So, for the
benefit of the peds and any skaters who
can't seem to come to terms with skating.
here is a list of some of the favorites from
the dictionary of skate termage.
SWIVEL-A sort of twist type dance
where you reel back with your weight on
one leg and swing about the torso area
while alternating your weight from one leg
to another. Warning: hardcores usually get
bummed at this dance and may try to lay
you out.
BIZOTIC-Unreal or almost unexplaina-
ble occurrences of the skate kind.
VIDIOTS-Any person(s) who considers
the playing of video games as actually
something to do. Symptoms: swollen
hands, square-shaped eyes.
JONESING-Gelling, gagging, sketch-
ing, flailing, dagging, barfing, hacking.
spewing...
G.I.-Gibbering Idiot. Sometimes con-
fused with a G.H. (Gel-Head).
HEADBANGER-Usually seen at
H-Metal shows like the Scorps, Judas
Priest, Motorhead, or even Black Flag,
pressed up against the stage with the right
fist thrusting upward to the beat.
*BONELESS ONE-A front-footed,
frontside footplant.
*SPIT-Two feet, or less, of water which
lies at the bottom of a pool or ditch,
forbidding you to skate there. Usually
implies merely inches of water.
*REBATE-You drop in and dag on your
first hit, you then run back to the other side.
shout "REBATE" and continue your run
before anyone else drops in.

PURE DIRT
ASH
Jimmy McNichol, of the goody two
shoes vein, has been seen shaking up the
skateboard and Hollywood scenes.
Someone said that during filming of an
espionage skateboard movie in Spain,
J.M. approached a homeboy who was
playing video games at an $18 million
dollar disco in Madrid. Evidently, J.M.
wanted to play and our homeboy wasn't
finished, so Jimmy socked him in the eye.
Our little vato, not one to create a scene,
waited till a later date to take the boots (or
should we say tennies?) to his assailant.
TUNE IN
Be on the lookout for "Skateboard
Rock," the skateboard band compilation
tape. It's in its final stages at press time,
and sources say that some of the featured
bands are RIOT .303 from Canada, Los
Olvidados and The Faction (Caballero's
band) from San Jose, Black Athletes from
San Francisco, plus a few surprises. For
information, contact Joey, High Speed
Productions, P.O. Box 24592, San
Francisco, CA 94124.
STICK IT
The phones are ringing off the hook and
the P.O. Box is bulging with complaints
that THRASHER SKATEBOARD
MAGAZINE stickers have been appearing
on a multitude of private and ultra-private
properties. Still not enough entrants for the
THRASHER Sticker in the Weirdest
Place" contest! You are supposed to take
pictures of them and send them in. Keep
up the good work, we need more com-
plaints.
MEDIA EVENTS AND
ELITIST TYPE GROUPINGS
Someone, back in the top-secret rumor
department here at THRASHER, said that
in February there IS going to be a
THRASHER Magazine sponsored invita-
tion only pro ramp contest somewhere in
the Mojave Desert. Plans are also being
made for a potential "Great Midwest Ramp
Contest," slated for sometime in May of
83. Competition ramps are now being
considered.
The Mile-High Ramp, due to landlord
problems, is being relocated to Squaw
Valley, right next to the resort. Someone
said the possibilities for a high caliber Pro
Invitational Ramp Contest were very
feasible after the spring thaw.
RISING STARS
Someone said they saw Mike McGill
and Steve Caballero jet skiing off the
coast of L.A. with John Wayne's son,
Ethan, and one of the Van Patten clan (the
one in "Class of 1984"). Gnit Pique and
Morizen only manage to score autographs
from police officers. They're so jealous.
Someone said that Don Hoffman (of
Pipeline fame) was beginning the market-
ing stage of some of the most radical
skateboard footage ever recorded.
Historic video imagery showcasing the
Gold Cup and various mega-skateboard
events, featuring skateboard icons such as
the likes of Eddie Elguera, Brad Bow-
man, a younger Steve Caballero,
Andrecht, Grisham, Rocco, and poten-
tially many more.
SKATING WITH NO LAWS
Someone in Colton said that Steve
Olson, Potato Head, Jay Alabamy and
other notables have been leading the
liberation of Colton Skatepark. Business at
hand, shred heavy with no dues.
TRANSPLANTS and TRAVEL
Rob Roskopff, former Ohioan, has
pulled up skates to resettle in San Jo.
Reports from that area disclose that he's
been blowing the locals' minds with his
Ohiobioness at the local ramps.
Christian Hosoi has been getting
around, last seen in San Francisco,
attending a Los Olvidados rock n' roll gig at
the On Broadway and shredding almost all
the local ramps in the Nor Cal area.
PROMOTION D.R.B.
No, not a hype for Dr. Rick Blackhart,
but a big hype for the DESERT RAMP
BATTLE. Someone said they saw Stacy
Peralta, Lowboy, Fausto and Eric at an
undisclosed address in Palmdale
inspecting what could be "The Great
Ramp for the first gigantic Pro Ramp
Invitational. Keep your ears open for the
"GREAT DESERT RAMP BATTLE."
HEAVY SESSIONING
Steve Caballeros' ramp has been
enduring the heaviest of bio sessions
lately. Intensity is picking up these days as
madmen attack the transitional fortress. A
group of skaters calling themselves The
Faction, are located thereabouts and
have been calling the ramp home.
T-ed said that within the next few issues.
there was going to be another full-on,
street skate issue. Potential rad street
skate shots from around the world are now
being accepted for the "On the Streets of
the Globe" street-riding article. Send your
black & white pictures in now!
QUOTES FROM THE GUT
"When they close, it flourishes." CRAIG
RAMSAY.
"A ramp in every neighborhood."
FAUSTO
"I'll work Christmas day if I feel I'll make
a buck." RICH NOVAK.
"Don't listen to them, they don't even
skate." PAUL SCHMITT.
THRASHER
