TEXAS SIZE THRASHIN'
What goes in California? Skatin' is real
hot down here in Port Arthur, Tex. This
past weekend has been "da kind" because
our friends from Houston came down to
skate our ramps and ditches. The guys
were Teddy, Toby, Todd, and Joanne
(Teddy's woman), Joe (with the coolest
mohawk now) and John Gibson.
Our friends had to tear down their
fiberglass ramp after the Backyard Series,
so they haven't ridden vert for about three
months. Man, it didn't slow them down one
bit. Joe Nichols was blazing inverts into
Andrechts back to back, and, of course,
Johnny was ripping like he's been riding
every day (how does he do it?). He even
learned a new trick on our ramp, "The Gay
Twist, and man, I've never seen anybody
pull them higher!!
I think you guys ought to come down
sometime and check Johnny out and get
an interview and pics (David Chaffin got a
lot of pics of J.G. that weekend). But after
riding our ramp and David's ramp in
Beaumont (with metal coping), we all
headed out for the "Snake Pit." It's a hot
ditch we have around here. Good ol'
Teddy, a partying kind of guy, rolls up the
killer rastas for the inspiration.
After the killer ditch session we departed.
and the J.G. fan club (with, of course, J.G.)
went back to Houston promising to come
back soon. And us P.A. guys and gals
headed up to the beach for some heavy
Labor Day partying. After a night and a day
of the beach cabin party, we decided to go
to Houston Tuesday night to see some of
the gang and also to go see the Stray Cats,
which was unreal. Making it back at about
3:30 a.m., we all kicked about for a while
thinking about the fun weekend and hoping
it all happens again real soon.
Thanks for taking the time and hope to
see you guys down in this part of Texas
real soon. Hey man, THRASHER is the
best. We'll get Dave to send ya'll some
photos of Johnny G. soon.
Skatin' to the death,

LOWERING POPULATIONS
I'm a skater from Fresno area and
there's some skating here, but the people
who I know are a bunch of half-ass kook
skaters. I lived in Bakersfield over the
summer, and I had a chance to skate with
some really good skateboarders. They
showed me some techniques in skating
that really helped me out. Me and my
friends Javiar and David are hardcore
street skaters. We're getting a halfpipe for
$100, which is not bad, so that way we can
skate on it instead of the streets because
there's too many old ladies on the
sidewalks and we're always coming close
to lowering the town's population. If there's
any chance you can put this in your cool
mag, go for it.
Gotta Jam,
"Surf Cat" Gary Wasson

P.S. If there's any skaters in the Fresno
area, let's get in touch.
