shortly thereafter bought his lunch on
Deadman's Curve?) In a later incarnation,
that wonderful poseur, Joe Jackson mas-
queraded by singing, "skateboards, I al-
most made them respectable. However,
things are now changing. There are
thousands of bands composed of skaters
creating music. Television will soon follow
as skaters infiltrate the media power struc-
ture. Peralta's video tape (he sells at dup-
licating cost, so it's a fair deal at the price),
featuring the latest, the most, etc. is a fair
example. Stacy had it smuggled into the
NBC studios in an attempt to educate late
night TV czar David Letterman as to the in-
tricacies of skate life. The mass media boys
rather than cover skating, choose to inter-
view talking dogs on the idiot box. So, in an
open challenge to D. David Letterman: just
let any skater into the sacred bastions of
video control NBC Central, and I guarantee
you he will quickly change your mind
forever. Sound ominous yet, David? Well,
the stale humor, rancid dialogues and dog
lust have gone too far. We are taking over
and we're talking to you. If you don't give us
some skate coverage you will be faced with
(choose one): A) skaters in your driveway,

B) your typically terminal stupid show, C)

E) we will let the janitor out of the drum.
Why Johnny don't surf. In keeping with
the ethic of something to offend everyone,
we will now attempt to address several of
the most often voiced assumptions and
questions directed towards the
THRASHER staff. Our first pearl of mis-
information, (or probe into the frontal lobe
of mass consciousness, if you prefer), "
comes from the widely renowned Carlos de
Fogtown. Carlos, who actually wants to
know, asks, "Why don't surfers skate any-
more"? In the interest of fair play, we shall
now alienate Carlos as a gesture of
friendship to all waterborne slime. The one
major drawback to Fogtown Carlos' living
legend is (choose one): A) low compres-
sion heads on the Camaro, B) he's from
Salinas, C) he only surfs on weekends, D)
he hasn't discovered that business and
pleasure don't mix. Enough, back to the
question at hand. Actually many surf types
do continue to skate. Apparently this is a lit-
tle known fact probably due to the media's
lack of awareness. For instance, the surf
media types continue to ignore the fact that
the best professional surfing being done
today is skate inspired. If you still regard
surfing as that closed-minded performance
gig you dreaded through the sixties and
seventies then you're in for a surprise. The
skate moves of yesterday are the surf
moves of today. When former Australian
skateboard champ Cheyne Horan captures
the No. 1 IPS slot, he will be the acknow-
ledged leader of surfing. Enough said,
once a skater, always a skater? Why does
the surf media continue to ignore skating?
(choose several): A) it is controlled by forty
year old executives who neither surf nor
skate, B) surf mags are only advertising
vehicles for psuedo surf clothing com-
panies, C) sun and salt water have a
cumulative effect of brain retardation, D)
they never leave the beach so they don't
know what's happening. E) Gidget was a
transvestite.
Another question frequently asked
is why are you guys so punk? Appa-
rently, even the imagined presence of
black leather and studs alienates more
than a few. Anyone who has ever met our
staff leader, Ted Three, would realize the
fallacy of this query. I mean are argyle
