MAGAZINE recently, skateboarders have
been raising some tempers in Middle
America. In Madison, Wisconsin, the city
council is attempting to clamp down on
inebriated (drunk) skateboarders that have
been weaving down the sidewalks of their

have suspected skaters take a
breathalyzer test, just like the one for drunk
driving.
Our very own San Francisco Chronicle,
reporting on parachuting off of El Capitan,
a 4,000 foot high rock in Yosemite Valley,
stated "A legal parachuting program was
established last year, but it was abolished
six weeks later because of a high rate of
injuries and unauthorized flights such as
night jumping, group jumping and jumping
from skateboards." That's gotta be one
gnarly roll in.
OUR ERROR... Mike Foster,
Professional Skateboard Specialist (he
has business cards to prove it) did indeed
place fifth, not sixth as stated in our Sept.
issue, at the Paramount freestyle bash this
last July. It seems that Mike is no
newcomer to the art of freestyling either.
This h-core's credits include 1975 New
Mexico f.s. champion, first in sponsored
19+ at the 1980 Oasis F.S. Classic and
most importantly, he introduced the end
over kick flip to the world.
The car craze rages on, latest
happenings are as follows: our peerless
publisher E. Riggins leads the way with a
Skate ladies of Chicago at "the wall"
'67, 396 c.i, Chevelle and a just acquired
Maserati Bora. Larry Balma at Tracker has
completely dismantled his Corvette and is
busy modifying chassis and motor to what
he refers to as "higher levels." Olson is
blazing L.A. land with a sharp, stylish
Comet. Fausto has lined up a '51 Cadillac
Coupe DeVille and is eagerly awaiting
delivery. Also at Indy, Eric is deep at work
on a '56 Chevy and has every intention of
"blowing everyone's doors off." D.P.,
Sacto's answer to Cal Worthington, is
cruising the boulevards in a sharp Merc.
Doctor Rick has been spotted with a bottle
of spray wax, maintaining the proper luster
on his '65 Mustang. And last, but certainly
not least, Lowboy has put out a call for all
fins pre-'67, bumpers are also worthy, but
no dents or dings are allowed.
Have you heard the one about Sherman
Brittingham? All on his lonesome, Sherm
shreds his own private half-pipe in Butler,
Missouri. Anyone in the vicinity should
drop in some lines. Roger Hickey
announced his retirement at the recent
Capitola Classic. Right.
SKATE PUNKS SHREDDING...At a
recent gig by the Circle Jerks at the "On
Broadway in S.F. there were no less than
20 skateboards checked in at the front
door of the club.
Betty Hunt...since she got tired of
seeing only male skaters in THRASHER,
Cynthia Pendergast of Chicago, Ill,
forwarded pics of her and "the girls" skatin'
some of thier local spots like Rockfords
Reservoir, Evanston Banks and various
pools. Cindy, Marla, and Sharon
are tired of reading about Illinois skaters
complaining of no skate spots. Yeah! Let's
hear from more women skaters out there.
