HR: Right, okay, well I saw Stacy
and met him at the contest. Man,
he just blows me away as a
skater, you know, and he's a
really cool guy, I just walked up
and said hi. He was real cool, he
wasn't into this "I'm cool" thing..
He was just like "All right, how
you doing?" He's really great.
Are you guys starving still?
HR: Actually we're not starving
anymore, we do have a lot of
debts to pay, all the money we
can get our hands on we put into
our record company and put out
bands like the Minutemen, Meat
Puppets, and Saccharin Trust,
you know, bands we really think
are happening. We put out two
mini-LP's this week, a Meat
Puppets LP and a 45 by a band
called Würm. They're from L.A.
GG: What happens is the way
we survive is by playing live.
HR: We put the money back into
advertising and more records.
You know, we want to put out a
whole mess of bands.
Is there anything you'd like to
say?
HR: Yeah, all right you skaters,
get on our mailing list, okay? The
address is on the back of all the
albums (I'm not telling you to buy
them). Also it's in the magazine,
it's S.S.T. Records, P.O. Box 1,
Lawndale, CA 90260.
Who answers all your mail?
HR: I do. We get a lot of it and it
takes a long time. In my opinion,
anyone who gets off their ass
and writes a letter, is happening.
Give me a discography.
HR: As BLACK FLAG we put out
the Nervous Breakdown EP in
79 and then Jealous Again
came out in '80. Six-Pack came
out in '80. We have an album
called Damaged which came out
in '81. We have a new single
which just came out one to two
weeks ago (TV Party, I've Got to
Run/My Rules), and we've got a
single out on Posh-Boy called
Louie Louie and Damaged One.

They're not on anything else and
they're pretty cool songs too.
One's called "Machine" and
one's called "Clocked In."
Who writes all the songs?
HR: Chuck, Greg, Dez, Henry.
GG: Yeah, we all do.
HR: We hope to do between
three and five new songs tonight.
We got a lot of new stuff. We're
doing mostly Greg's new stuff
now, but Chuck has a lot of new
stuff too.
GG: We have so many new
songs and we don't have them
worked in yet, you know, with the
new drummer and stuff.
HR: Things take time, we like to
practice, usually seven days a
week, every day we don't play
live. We like to practice, so we
keep sharp, our thing tends to
really stray unless we keep right
on it. Also, we like to play, I love
to play, I mean, I think it's the
best.
It seems like you enjoy what
you're doing and have fun.
HR: I like to live...sometimes I
don't like to live.
That happens to the best of
us, you know, you kinda lose
out in that "not wanting to
live" thing.
HR: I don't know, I have a lot of
ups and downs, I just wrote a
whole bunch of stuff on the way
up to the show last night (we
played Sacto). That went real
good last night, played real well I
thought. A lot of people came,
everyone had a great time, we
busted loose. I really got off, I'm
real satisfied with that one.
Playing the On Broadway
tonight. It's kinda funky sounding
on stage, it's kinda hard to hear.
You're 100 percent committed
individuals. You really love

HR: I like being on stage, I like
the sound. I like to get right in
front of people.
