NEW JERSEY...
I've been meaning to write to you guys
for a while now but I just never got around
to doing so. There is definitely some hot
skate action here in Central Jersey. I (and
some other skaters) live on an Army base
and after having a lot of ramps destroyed
and being picked up by the M.P.'s a
bunch of times, we finally persuaded them
to build us a ramp. I designed it and it
measures 16 ft. wide x 8 ft. high with a
foot of vert. It's also got pool coping on
one side and broomsticks on the other. It
only has one foot of platform but what can
you expect from the Army? But, really, it's
a great ramp. We skate it whenever we're
not curb grinding, downhillin' or sleeping
and eating.
Our ramp isn't the only good ramp
though. There is a good one in Ft. Lee
that I would like to skate. Jamie Godfrey
has a nice 16 footer, Jeff Jones has a
nice "Empire" nearby, plus a couple of
others.
I guess we are pretty lucky to have all
this terrain to skate. But it's still too bad
that Cherry Hill closed.
I sent you some pictures of myself
skating. It would be insane if you printed a
few. Plus, if anybody wants some good
plans drawn up for a ramp just write me
at: 1 Mariveles Rd., Eatontown, NJ
07724. Give me a basic description of
what you want and I'll give you
dimensions, top, bottom and side views
and how to get a good beam construction.
'til Later,
Steve Herring

P.S. These pictures are slightly old. It
was prior to the additions, but I'll send you
some updated shots.
SWEDEN...
I'm sending you some photos from the
Eurocana Summer Camp. The guy who does the
handplant is Hans Gothberg. He's the best vertical skater
in Sweden at the moment. I'm wondering if you want some
more photos, because we are going to have a contest in Januar
Please send me a letter if you want some photos from the contest.
Signed,
