SCOTT PAZELT
"I'VE BEEN BANNED FROM WOODWARD EVER SINCE"
irst off Scott, I'd like to apologize for ever insinuating
that you are the working man's version of any other
skater. Truth is, you are a dynamic pro skater with
your own fantastic abilities.
Thanks. I appreciate that.
What kind of car do you drive?
It's a Honda Prelude.
Is it tricked out?
It looks like it is, but it's really not. It just has some rims and
tinted windows.
'Cause to me, it looks like the kind of car that, if I was the
kind of guy who stole cars, it would be a popular pick.
It's funny you should say that. It's been stolen twice now, within a
year. Actually, within about eight months. Then they find it about five
days later, on cinder blocks somewhere-Chula Vista or Northpark.
And then I take it to the body shop for about two months and then I
get it back and it's only a little more messed up than before.
Do the thieves ever stink it up before they leave it? Do
they leave anything?
They leave tacos. I don't know. They fucked it up pretty bad.
They just punched it up-punched out the ignition, punched out
the door locks. Nothing personal, though.
So you turned pro!
Yeah. Yep.
Congratulations!
Yeah. For Chapman.
And your board has sexy babes on it. Did you come up
with your own graphics?
No, not really. They called me up and asked if I wanted naked
girls on my board and I said "Hell yeah, I definitely want naked
girls on my board." I kind of put something together and then they
fixed it up a little bit and sent it back to me.
Have you shown your mom yet?
Yeah, my mom was really disappointed. I kind of felt bad. Then
they made another one with just my name on it, so she has that
one and likes it much better.
You've spent lots of time at Woodward Skate Camp. What
are some of your fondest Woodward memories?
I've had some happy times and some unhappy ones.
What are some of the unhappy ones?
Well, one night when I was supposed to be watching a cabin of
kids, my friend Brett came over and brought a bottle of Southern
Comfort with him. We walked down a couple of cabins and found an
empty room and started drinking and one of the owners, well, not
the owners, but one of the main instructors caught us and was like, it
was a Wednesday and the guy's all, "All right. You guys gotta be out
of here by Saturday, this is your last week." So we're all, "Fuck, we're
getting kicked out." So the next day I made an "I Hate Woodward"
shirt and am wearing it around camp. Then I left and I was coming
back into camp and the owner saw me wearing it and, dude, he tried
to fight me. He dragged me into a room and started freaking out. He
was getting pretty violent; throwing some things around. He made me
pack my bags right then and left me on the curb in front of the camp.
Luckily I got a ride home with Jesse Fritsch. And I've been banned
from Woodward ever since. That was about three years ago.
Wow! I just wanted to ask you if anyone ever peed or
barfed in that big foam pit. Does it get like the ball thing at
McDonald's?
That thing's so fun. I hope not. I've been in that thing a bunch of
times. Maybe so. There are lots of little kids that go in that thing.
I'm sure one or two of them might have an accident once in
awhile. The first year I saw it it was all fresh blue pads, and then
the next year they were all stained and discolored-getting a
brown tint. I don't know what people are doing in those things.
Have you already picked out a song for your next video part?
Yeah. I want the Quiet Riot song, "Mama We're All Crazy Now".
I'll probably have to have rap, though.
What's the most you've ever been rewarded for landing a
trick?
I'd say that bucket of chicken you tempted me with.
Well, I knew that once you started thinking about all that
delicious chicken, the nollie boardslide would be no prob-
lem. What's the biggest reward you've seen out on the
photo shoots?
I've seen someone win $100. It was Adrian Sua. I don't think he
collected though. I think Louder just bought him lunch.
Let's get some sponsor stats.
Chapman skateboards, Osiris shoes, Spitfire, Thunder, Vonzipper
sunglasses, Counter Culture and Street Machine.
