SAM HITZ
"MILWAUKEE MADE ME LOVE METAL"
W
here did you grow up and where are you
currently living?
I'm from Milwaukee, Wisconsin and living in San
Diego now. I've been living in SD for years now.
You recently moved out of the Heshcamp and to the beach;
are you establishing another Heshcamp?
Yeah, established a new area and bumped up my derelism points
to 10 by living at the beach.
What nationality is the name Hitz? Where does it stem from?
That's some German shit.
What's a typical day like for the Hitman?
Wake up and make breakfast with my lady. Then, find the session
and go skating, checking everything out and roaming the city.
What was it like growing up in Milwaukee, and did The Turf
skatepark have a big influence on your skating style?
Yeah, of course it did. That's my park where I grew up, but that's
dead. More so skating the bowls; like up in Seattle. Those have influ-
enced me, and just skating concrete. Growing up in Milwaukee made
me love metal.
Which skaters were you influenced by when you were grow-
ing up?
Just the locals at the park. Crazy dudes like Zor, Al Partanen defi-
nitely, Rob Owen, Jay Iding... the whole local crew.
What terrain have you been mostly skating lately?
Pools. Mostly skating concrete. Minimal vert... I have to go skate
vert with Navarette more often. Everyone must skate vert more often.
Favorite skatespots that you have been to, either in the US or
overseas?
South Chula Vista, CA. Right now there are
three nice bowls going on. All the stuff up in the
Northwest, FDR, and out in the desert.
Concrete.
Describe the ultimate skatespot.
That's tough. Marseille with pool coping would
be killer.
You mentioned that you have traveled to the
Northwest. What do you think about the
concrete parks that Hubbard and those
crews are building?
The best, top notch-A+. Takes out every-
thing else. Nothing like it in the world, as far as I
have seen.
Darrell
Delgado
Who nicknamed
"Delscorcho?" And does he hit you up for
stickers all the time?
Delscorcho terminology... I'm not sure of the
origin, but it's pretty funny. And the stickers, he
has a gnarly collection going on; semi-museum.
Describe the meaning of Hesh.
Dirty and doing whatever the fuck you want. Hesh, as in Hesh
crew. That's all top secret... legendary.
Hip-hop or death metal to hype up the session?
Obviously death metal.
What bands have you been rocking in the tape deck lately?
As of minutes ago Fang, Obituary, Shed, and Deicide to name a few.
What was the best road trip you have been on?
Ahh, it's all a blur.
Favorite vert skater?
Darren Navarette or Peter Hewitt. Definitely as of 2001.
Favorite street skater?
There are a lot of shutters out there. I would have to say Donger,
who lives in SD, and Chris Swanson.
Milwaukee's Best or the King of Beers?
Milwaukee's Best of course.
What's in store for 2001? What do you have lined up?
More traveling. Always heading up to the Northwest, especially dur-
ing the summer. East Coast is looking strong. I need to go back to the
Philly area.
What companies are you riding for?
SCUM skateboards, straight out of the garage. Emerica shoes,
Jason has been hooking up the Spitfires, Independent trucks are
mandatory, and Roughneck hardware.
Any shout outs?
Shout outs don't really compute. Thanks to Rhino. We had
some fun trips.
