HAT WAS THE FIRST THRASHER
you ever saw?
I really can't think of the very first; maybe the
one with Sheffey on the cover.
Is the Thrasher motto "Skate and Destroy"
still relevant?
If you want to analyze the phrase and abide by
the definitions of the two main words, yes, the
motto remains a relevant one, as skaters are con-
stantly destroying property. But I know that's not
what you're asking me.
Who has the best lines at 3rd and Army?
Dennis Busenitz, you'll see... of course Karl
Watson, Henry Sanchez, and then you have the
guys who've busted some serious single tricks at
that spot. Everyone has their favorites.
Why isn't there a better name for that place?
I don't know what else we'd call it. If you look
at the names of other places, they usually have to
do with some name that appears in the area of
the skate spot, unless the spot was made famous
by a person, such as Cardiel Street. See, I don't
even know the city name of Cardiel Street, and
same goes with Cardiel Ledge-I don't know the

name of that park. As for 3rd and Army,
the name suits me fine.
What were you doing in Egypt?
Going to school knowing that I wasn't
getting the fuck out of there until my dad
wanted to move. I never ran away from
home out there.
How long were you there?
Three years.
Why do you have so many photos skating
that one schoolyard rail?
Hmm four doesn't seem to be too
many. Why do so many skaters skate the
same handrails? That's my rebuttal.
Do you feel like you owe Satva and the
old Thrasher videos a lot of credit for get-
ting your career started?
Undoubtedly. Thanks Lava!
What do you think of Thrasher videos
in general?
They've come a long way from what they
used to be, and that's good.
Do you think you've worn out the
nollie hardflip?
Have you seen me do one in a while?
I'm keeping that shit on the low, but
sooner or later...
What kind of music do you listen to?
Audible.
Have you ever gotten an issue of Thrasher
for the music features in it?
Can't say that I have. That's what music
'zines are for. In Thrasher, I get to see the
hot shit of the month.
Can you skate vert? Have you ever
dropped in?
I skate the flatbottom best, but I have
dropped in.
Mad Circle or Supernaut?
Both, because they were different times of
my life. That kind of makes me think of
how some people justify their tattoos. Each
team had something that the other didn't,
which I appreciate.
Do you want to put to rest the rumors
about your Philly trip? What happened?
That shit's pointless; I know what hap-
pened and that'll just have to do. Anyway,
it's done with, so forget about it.
How do you feel about filming versus
photos? Which do you prefer?
I like both, but though I don't advocate it,
I wish it was one or the other each time,
instead of both at the same time. Don't
plan on me doing that either.
Do you ever wish you had never turned.
pro and were still an unknown just
skating for fun?
Sometimes, but I'm happy with it this way.
Lipslide or Smith?
Both, but backside's better.
Rail or ledge?
Both.
Where will you be when Thrasher
turns 30?
Questioning things, just like I'm
doing today. -True 54
