106 THRASHER
5. Session
It's bound to happen. You are rolling with a crew. You
show up at the spot and everyone gets out and throws
down. Everywhere we went on this trip there was a ses-
sion; it was sick. It's heated, especially with a bunch of
people, and everyone wants to bust. The session is why
you rolled with a group and a session is what you get.
10. Delgado
Delgado is a section of the compadre group. Delgado only happens once in every 100 road
trips. He is the guy with buckets, brooms, shovels, and even pre-made drain covers. Delgado is
pool-ready.
We met Delgado in Phoenix. His presence was an added feature to our sessions with crazy
slides, and his utensils came in handy down the road. Delgado can grind any shallow end.
9. Compadres
These are the dudes you are meeting who have their
own vehicles and are prepared to accompany you on your
travels. At one point on our trip I looked back and
counted five cars in a line all headed to the next spot.
Let's see, we had Wez Lundry and Cody Boat in Wez's
Dart, Colby Carter in his truck, Florida Ben in his Honda
with Rookie and Jimmy Moore, who we'll talk of later,
and Darrel Delgado-all of whom made every session
(look to #5) better. No barney is a compadre.
15. Pools
You are in the desert and there are pools everywhere. Every pool is different; that is the beauty of it. We skated
three pools on the trip. There was one in Phoenix with tile coping and a good shallow end. Then there was one skated
for 10 minutes in Durango that was about six feet deep and screwed up. The best was in a town that is to remain
nameless between Winslow, AZ, and New Mexico. Chet Childress knew of it and said it was a go, so we went. A six-
foot-deep blue, round pool. The catch was that the motel where it was was open. Delgado went in and came out with
the manager and a set of keys. Skating was on after a quick clean. Everyone got some and then a spectator named
Jason took us to his house and treated us to beers. Pools are a go.

19. Desert
It is the space in between where you have to go. Sometimes it is hot, some-
times there is a gnarly storm. All you see is dirt and cactus. The sunsets are
amazing. The desert is the last place you want to break down.
