Has anyone else besides me
noticed the dramatic shift skating.
has taken? Kids are writing to your
mag asking if they have a future or
bragging about how many tricks
they can do. There is even a skate-
boarding league. What the fuck is
that all about? Skating is something
you should do for yourself, not for
money, fame, or popularity. People
who skate for those reasons are the
definition of poser, someone who
does it for "fashion." Even all the
sellout pros. Being a poser has noth-
ing to do with how good you are.
There is probably a little kid out
there who just started skating who is
less of a poser than some ESPN
douchebag, which brings me to
another point: why do all the older
kids give little kids shit for trying?
You started out sucking too.
Someday that kid might be able to
show you up. He's not a poser; he
might just be a little less educated.
Don't even worry about anything
else besides skating. And one more.
thing that bothers me is when peo-
ple write to magazines and bad-
mouth people or say how much peo-
ple suck. You're wasting your time.
No one cares what you think; people
can make up their own minds. By

What's up? This is Jason Thug.
Remember me from "Back on Track,"
early '98? Well, here I am in boot
camp for those heroin charges, two
years old. I spent that time in jail, got
out, and cleaned up. I got a good job,
a nice car, a house, and a girl, and two
years later I went to court and got
sentenced for 90-120 days in boot
camp. For those who don't know, boot
camp in the state of Georgia is a
prison facility where you have to work
eight hours a day and exercise a lot.
You I get fed like shit, sleep about six
hours a night, and get yelled at all day.
long. It sucks. Anyone out there who
thinks drugs are cool needs take a
second look at things. I was a heroin
addict for about five years. I lost a lot
of time, money, and friends to that
shit. Now I've been clean for two
years and they're taking more time
and money from me. Four months
isn't that long, but it is long enough to
get shitty at skateboarding, probably.
Well, shouts out to the old school.
