way to win the battle is to session one of the indoor
parks. Around here, being a non-skater and a kook
are prerequisites for owning one of these facilities.
Travel Alternative is the longest-running park in the
state. It recently changed ownership, ending the
"reign of terror" that skaters and parents alike had
to deal with for years.
Regardless of how the skatepark scene is, kids
will always take to the streets. Downtown
Indianapolis has plenty of good spots but is some-
what of a bust. For that reason, it doesn't get skated
as much as it should. If you're in Indianapolis, stop
by Rise. It's a great place to hang out, watch videos,
and find out what's going on. An hour south of
Indianapolis is Bloomington. There you will find
True skate shop and Indiana University, which has
just about everything you would want to street
skate. I don't recommend catching the next bus to
Indiana; however, if you find yourself passing
through, stop and check it out.
Clockwise from left: The Thrill Of It All video hit hard in
Kokomo, IN, and Drew Behler was a major casualty. Backside
180 to the parking lot. Buddy Best sprays a dog-pisser to
fakie all over the quarterpipe at the Indianapolis skatepark.
This kid pushed all the way across the park to hit this flat bank
and he's about to bust! There aren't a lot of hills in the
Midwest, so mad-dog pushing was the only way for Nate OLT
to get enough speed to take this ollie over four long steps and
a sidewalk to the street.
