failproof bank prowess. Jay Moody showed
some Donger-style pop and hair and per-
formed the only street doubles of the week-
end. Allen Russell flexed his localism.
Patrick Melcher made a triumphant return
with a smart Luck O' The Irish appearance
and frontside 180° to switch crooks down
the handrail. Tosh Townsend skated a lot
like Arto and showed remarkable solidness
for his 14 years. "The Germinator," Dennis
Busenitz, laid down some tech to qualify
third on the first day. Dave Davis couldn't
miss tré flip tailgrabs and tré flips to nose on
the QPs. Pat Smith powered. Lindsey.
Robertson ollied off the vert ramp again and
again. Chris Cole pedaled into 270° board-
slides down the rail. Uriel Luebke fakie
ollied to backside tailslide to fakie across the
pyramid flat bar. Nate Jones floated giant tré
flips and kickflips across the pyramid and
stood up on backside tailslides across all flat
bars. Rodney Jones skated fast and blasted
huge airs over the super kicker. Ryan
Sheckler skated well beyond his nine years
with melons over the super kicker rail, fee-
bles across the flat bar, and a roof-raising
50-50 kickflip out across the bank loveseat.
Graham Bickerstaff powered through
frontside feebles. Jake Nunn has a Hawk-like
appearance and threw a kickflip backside,
tailslide down the big rail in his run. Aaron
Suski was just plain ripping. He's got a Brian
Anderson-like approach and wasn't
afraid to mix in some big air with his
rail assault, which included ollie
across the pyramid to frontside and
backside lipslide. Mark Appleyard was
the real champ of the weekend, even
though he had a rough time in the
finals. His qualifying runs included
nollie heelflip noseslide down the big
rail and a slew of other Koston-
esque moves like nollie heels over.
the pyramid and nollie crooked
grinds at will. Colt Cannon threw
inward heelflips over the pyramid,
skated like a man, and is destined to
be a future heavy. Kyle Berard won it
with kickflip Indys over the super
kicker, Cabs over the pyramid,
frontside blunts on the QP, and back-
side 180° kickflip melon over the
pyramid. The following weekend, he
won his first pro contest at the event
in North Carolina. Nice job, Kyle.
Best Trick was gnarly, and the fact
that anyone could land anything in
traffic that crazy was a testament to
their skill. It took place on the pyra-
mid, which featured a centered flat
bar that kinked down on one end to
form a handrail. Will Harmon heated
things up with a crooked grind trans-
fer for $300. Trainwreck got busy with
