I first remember meeting Phil at this skatepark in Woolongongalat, down south. We were both skating
this heaps-big ollie gap between two car parks over a wombat's nest. We didn't know each other; we'd just
started skating this gap at the same time. It took us a few shots and just as I was about to commit to one,
a huge Roo came flying in and knocked me off my board. At first I didn't know what it was, but as I lay on
the ground I looked up and saw it charging back at me. It must have gotten upset about us ollieing over the
wombat's nest. It was about to land right on me, when out of nowhere a skateboard flung right into the Roo's head
like a boomerang. Phil helped me up and said, "Eh, mate, you gotta keep an eye out for those Roos in this area; they hate
the sound of skateboards, like when dogs bite your wheels." From then on we pretty much became best friends. Any mate
who will put his life on the line for ya is a true blue mate. -Steve Tierney
Gary Collins
Sponsors: Sessions clothing,
Krux trucks, Spitfire wheels
Age: 22
Home: Cincinnati, OH
Over the last year I have gotten to
know Gary really well, mostly from
logging miles on the road together. A
mutual friend described him the best
by saying, "They broke the mold
when Gary was made." His personal-
ity and sense of humor are one of a
kind. His natural talent mixed with a
healthy ego makes him unstoppable
on a skateboard. He's not afraid to go
on a two-month-long road trip with
only $30. So if he ever shows up rip-
ping at your local spot, buy him a
value meal. He would like to thank
his family, friends, Keith Wilson,
Justin Gold, Jeff Kendall, Ron.
Whaley, Andrew Hutchison, Mic-E
Reyes, and everyone in Cincinnati.

Souichiro Nakajima
Sponsors: Stereo, Thunder trucks, Spitfire wheels
Age: 18
Home: Tokyo, Japan
I can't say Souichiro's last name. "So-e-chi-ro" is how
you pronounce his first name, I think. We thought
about asking him to change his name to Shawn. But any
way you stack it, and any way you pronounce his name, he
still has massive pop and great technical skills, so I decided to
call him Souichiro the Great. He's learning new tricks at the
same quick rate that he's learning English.
