Left to right: Every rida's a star, especially if
they can keep up with Kareem's sensational nollie
hardflip catch to backside 180°. Pat Channita
explodes onto the pages of Thrasher with a
speedy backside flip over the roof gap that the
Butcher did a front flip into.

full-speed-ahead approach. Power
moves included a lien disaster
from an eight-foot-tall quarterpipe
to a skinny 12-foot-tall bank-to-
wall, which, in turn, was right next
to an iron gate capable of behead-
ing Mike should he have carved
out too far.
8. Mike Vallely
V fans were not disappointed by
Mike's runs, which included tall
Miller flips, a wallride beatdown and
flappin' one-footed Japans over the
whole hip to the flat. Do you get it?
7. Matt Beach
Big nollies over the hip and a
style so smooth it could almost be
called polite.
6. Andrew Reynolds
Raw Florida-style attack with
frontside crookspick off the top of
the big wallride, salad grinds on the
flat bar, and kickflip melons on a
whim. A failed kickflip noseslide on
the big ledge and the accompany-
ing media onslaught kept him out of
the top placings.
5. Scott Johnston
A new face in the top ten, Scott
tailslid his way into the finals with
the ledge and flat bar mastery befit-
ting a modern technical giant.
4. Sean Sheffey
Sheffey began each run with mon-
ster drop-ins off the backs of the
ramps and then cruised through the
course throwing switch tricks out
like they were candy. Switch
frontside boardslides, switch flip
over the big hip, and even a Japan
air on the big quarterpipe propelled
Sean into his highest finish in recent
memory. Look for the Boy King to
win one in the near future, 'cause
it's gonna happen.
3. Rogerio Soares Manosa,
Guess what? Another ripping
Brazilian. Rogerio had a startlingly
good run that included a nollieflip
noseslide down the rail, a crooked
grind backside 180° out on the flat
bar, a million flip tricks on the
bank, and no heelflip grabs. All
that plus a smooth style and a
relaxed gait as he flowed from
prop to prop. I thought his first run
was unbeatable.
2. Donny Barley
On his final qualifying run, Donny
came out of an alley-oop disaster
straight into a crowd of encroach-
ing spectators. Dave "Square
Dealin"" Duncan quickly offered up
rebate run which Donny

infant-like complaining, but goddamn it, there's noth-
ing to eat in Europe. What's wrong with these people?
With a supposed cornucopia of culinary delights avail-
able in the old world, I was repeatedly forced to
choose between pizza smothered with tuna fish,
french fries covered with mayonnaise and topped with
a fried egg, or cheese sandwiches smeared with cream
cheese that smelled like a grown man's feet. You
would think this kind of high fat/zero vegetable diet
would cause the peoples of Europe to be on the port-
ly side. This would indeed be the case had they not
stumbled across their own version of the fountain of
youth: chainsmoking. And although refrigeration
exists in the old world, the chances of finding a cold
beverage is about as likely as finding a restaurant
that offers normal, non-carbonated drinking water.
Warm beer and soda for everyone!
