SA: How has being a pro
skater affected relation-
ships in your life? Do you
think people have decided
they like you now because
of it?
Maybe some people, but my
close friends haven't changed.
SA: But people at your
school, like girls, have they
decided they like you now?
No. They're all dumb rich
girls and they don't care. It's
the high school football hero.
and the cheerleaders. There
are just my close friends, and
they haven't changed at all.
That's how I know they're my
good friends.
MR: How does music affect
your skating?
It doesn't affect my skating.
MR: But what kind of
music gets you pumped
up? What do you listen to?
I listen to punk rock and
hardcore and rap. I like speed
metal or hardcore punk shit.
It makes me psyched to go
skate. It's so fast I just want
to move around.
MR: Do you listen to music
right before you skate, like
with headphones?
I skate with headphones
on sometimes.
MR: Do you ever think of
songs in your head while
you're skating?
Yeah. Sometimes I think of
stupid shit too, like a cartoon I
watched or something dumb.
DD: Do you ever get some
lame Bon Jovi song in your
head, like "You Give Love
A Bad Name"?
No.
MR: So music is definitely
a part of your whole deal.
A big part.
MR: Who introduced you to
all the old punk music?
My friend Isaac. And
then from there I met
more punker dudes and
just started liking it and
hanging out with them.
MR: Do you go to shows
and stuff too?
Yeah. I don't go a whole
lot, but I try to go whenever
there's a good band playing.
MR: What was the last
show you saw?
I got kicked out of Bottom
of the Hill a bunch of times. It
was this band Plan 9. They do
Misfits covers and stuff.
MR: What do you think
about John Cardiel?
Don't ask me that shit.
MR: He's like a mad dog.
You turn him on and it's
like turning on a firehose.
What do you think about
Gershon Mosely?
He's sick, I guess. I saw him
in Tampa.
MR: You like doing
benihanas, right?
They're my favorite. I
know Hosoi at Petaluma
Iloves to do them.
MR: When do you think
you're going to die?
When I'm about your age,
and I've done too much. After
I've enjoyed a little bit too
much of life.
MR: How old were you
when you went on your
first tour?
Fourteen.
MR: What were you
thinking when you went
on that tour? Were you
just stoked or what?
Yeah. It was a new thing
every day. I didn't know
anything, and I was just
experiencing new things
on tour every day. And
you just have to adapt to
everyone else, in the van,
or else you'll snap.
Jessica Krause: Do
you have hot, naked,
booty sex?
No, I just fuck 'em.
MR: What's it like being
Tony Trujillo, day in and
day out?
It sucks, because I have
to go to school every
damn day.
MR: What would you
rather be doing?
Skating.
Left to right: Tony is always down
to stop the car if someone sees a
sick spot for a drop-in; here he takes the chute
and snaps over the sidewalk to the street.
