If you could skate like
anyone right now, who
would it be?
It would either be Kenny
Reed, or Rick Howard. Those
guys are amazing.
How do you deal with
sprains and strains of
skating? When you're
injured do you just take it
easy or are you fiending?
I try to heal as fast as I can.
I just get minor aches and
Just
pains lately. Last summer I
pans
couldn't skate for three
months because of my
ankles, and that was really
hard. I'd see my friends skat-
ing, and they'd be like, "What
have you been doing, Cairo?"
I'd be like, "Sitting here, read-
ing. Checking out my ankles."
So when I'm really hurt it's
not very exciting. You gotta
find other things to do.
Are all your friends
skaters, or do you have
people outside the skate-
boarding world that you
hang out with?
The majority of my
friends are within the
skateboarding community.
The only person I probably
hang out with who doesn't
skateboard is my girl
friend, and she just goes to
college. I think it's good to
have friends outside the
skateboarding community.
It makes you realize
there's more than skate-
boarding itself. There's
much more out there in the
world. I'm not saying

That way it keeps your

at all, so with that presented towards
me, I'd probably just want to be myself.
I'm pretty content with where I am.
When you go skating and you want
to film or take photos of something
really gnarly, how much is for you
and how much is for skaters and
the media?
I don't even think in that frame of
mind. I just do it. Now we're just
trained to film everything and shoot
photos of it. So when I skate, I just
do it, and I'm not like, "Dude, did
you get the photo? Was it sick?
Where's it gonna go?" Hopefully the
But when you go out and see some-
thing, are you like, "I'm doing this
for me, Cairo Foster"?
Totally. I'm not doing it for anyone
else. I'm just progressing with my abili-
ty, and if I see it I'll do it for myself.
Did you find it awkward at first
having your photos taken and
video done?
It was strange. The filming wasn't.
strange, because everyone's in this
mood where you have to film and it's
been like that for so long. I've been
used to a camera being around. But a
still camera, like a camera for a maga-

How many days a week do
you skate if you're not hurt?
Every day.
If you could be anyone in
the whole entire world,
who would you want to be?
I don't really think about

and make sure it gets used for some-
thing in particular. If someone men-
tions it, like they think the trick is

zine, is a total-
ly different

first got pho-
tos taken of
myself, that
was extremely weird. I felt unc
uncomfort-
able. But I guess I got used to it.
What's one of your favorite tricks?
I love front-foot impossibles.
What's one trick you would love to
do, that would be your dream trick?
I'd love to do a McTwist. I know that
for sure. Or a kickflip on vert. But I
guess I gotta hone my vert skills before
I even think in that frame of mind.
What's your favorite flower?
The dandelion.
Why? Is that a weed or a flower?
It's a weed. That's just how I feel I'm
going along in life.
Who's your favorite Superhero?
It would have to be Robin, because he
never gets the props he deserves. He's
always in the shadow of Batman.
What do you plan to do after skate-
boarding? Do you have a passion
for anything else in life that you
could see yourself doing?
It would be in the direction of com-
pleting a degree in engineering in col-
lege, and going on to the normal,
"real" world, as people who don't
skateboard call it.
What's your current state of mind?
I'm in awe. I don't know. Clear
and conscientious about everything
I'm doing.
Are you a pretty positive person?
I'm pretty pessimistic.
What is your idea of perfect happiness?
Being content with your life is perfect
happiness. It's hard to achieve being
completely content with everything
you have.
