I have loved skateboarding for a long time,
but I am disappointed in myself for taking it
for granted for a while and letting my skate
party lifestyle slip slowly but surely so deep
into drugs that it was no longer a party-just
me and my habit.
Ever since I started skating in '83, it was all
about smoking buds, skating all day, get-
ting beers, going to shows and parties,
and skating all night. That shit was
hella fun, and that skate party
lifestyle paid off for me by
becoming pro and getting paid
to live the lifestyle I had
grown so accustomed to.
1989 was when I got to toss
the alarm clock, skate, party,
and sleep my life away. All
I had to do was show up at
the airport for my sched-
uled flights so I could
go do tours, camps,
and contests and
demos to skate and
rage. Whenever I
returned from
wherever, the
check was in the mail.
I'd pay rent in my over-
priced apartment, buy a fat
sack of dank, get all my
bros baked, skate, and
party some more.
After a while, I was basi-
cally living for the nightlife,
which consisted of a lot of
sex, drugs and rock n' roll,
so to speak, going to bed at
about 4:00 am, and getting
up around 4:00 pm. I was
still getting some good
skating in sometimes, but
mostly when I had at
good buzz
Somewhere in '93, during all
that decadence. I got into smoking
heroin and gradually developed a
habit. In '94, I started slamming it to
get high for real. This went on for a
while. I quickly tapped my bank
account and tried moving to
Portland to quit. I skated
and raged at Burnside,
doing other drugs
besides heroin.
After four months
of that, I moved
back to San
Francisco, and
before I knew it, I
was back into
heroin with a big-
ger habit than ever.
Somewhere in '95, I
got tired of doing heroin
straight, so I started mix-
ing it with cocaine for
the fat rush. After that, I
began to speedball out of
control, doing $100
worth of coke and
heroin a day. I need-
ed money, so I
would boost mer-
chandise out of
stores and sell
them to differ-
ent fences.
That lasted
about four
months. I final-
ly got busted
on April 25,
1996. I kicked
dope in jail by not
sleeping for 15 days. After I was there for
a month, I realized it was a blessing in
disguise. With other guys coming back
from court crying after the judge gave
Sequence: Danny was the first to start smoothing out this harsh Hunter's Point curb back in '88, and he still wears it down today.
Schmitting
There are curbs in front of this bank to wall now, but in '89, Danny did unobstructed crail taps on top of it.
