Interview by Kevin Zinger and Ed Dominick

Where are you living at these days?
Pacific Beach, California. I'm watching my friend
Greg's place for another nine months until he gets
out of jail.
Nine months in jail? What happened?
Mistaken identity. He got taken to jail for something
he didn't even have anything to do with.
Reeyes, June Cate, Kien Lieu, PB locals, Dominick.
Sung, and I used to skate with my friend Charlie
Vurmin, but he ain't around anymore
Why not?
He got into some bad shit. One night when he
was blacked out, he got sucker punched, went
home, grabbed a .22 rifle, and shot five times into
So you took over the responsibility of his house? a party. Now he's sentenced to twenty-eight
Yeah, his house and his dog.
Have you been on the road this summer?
Yeah, I went to Rosarito, Mexico, with Jason Rogers,
Donger, Rob Dafoe, Ben, Misha and Ed Dominick
Did you skate?
No, there isn't shit to skate, plus all of our
boards got ripped off. It was more of a vacation
than anything else.
Didn't you go to Europe with NOFX last year?
Yeah, NOFX is one of my favorite bands. It was a ten-
day trip, so we got to see them play eight or nine
times. Those guys are good people. Really down for
the punk scene unlike many bands nowadays.
Who do you skate with in San Diego?
years in prison. I miss you, Charlie. I wish things
were different.
How about you? Are you staying out of trouble?
I'm not a troublemaker. Sometimes the fuzz comes by
my house because we get too rowdy, but, besides
that, just an occasional ticket for drinking on the
beach or skateboarding in the street. You just can't
win with those fuckin' cops.
There's a big skate scene in San Diego. What do
you think about that?
Kids move out here so they can skate all winter and
not have to worry about the weather. It seems like
they also come to get sponsored and get in the mag-
azines. It's good to see more magazines popping up
on the East Coast.
Clockwise from spread: Cliff-jumping is a big sport in San Diego
and Jason is right on the tip. Jason and Bluto contemplate the
political ramifications of new anti-drug measures in an election
year. You can find all kinds of interesting things out on the curb
on garbage day, like this huge 3-can ollie in Pacific Beach.
