Many people might think that because Boulder is at the base of the
Rocky Mountains that the weather is cold and gnarly in the winter, but
it is actually very mild with temperatures averaging in the fifties during
the winter, so skating takes place year-round. Also, Colorado is a very dry
state that lacks humidity, which makes the summers not so sweltering.
Another bonus for those who feel the need is the location to some of the
best snowboarding in the country. Within an hour-and-a-half drive are the
resorts of Breckenridge, A-Basin, and Copper Mountain, which have sea-
sons extending well into the Summer.
Future:
This summer, a local pastor is planning on building another skatepark
in town at a church that will be free to the public with no pads necessary.
Also in the immediate future are plans for the city with cooperation from
the local police department on a Santa Rosa/Marseilles style concrete
park that should be complete by next summer. Overall, Boulder is a hap-
pening place with tons of skaters and heaps of spots, so check it out. O
Why do you think they
call it Boulder, dummy?
