When you were growing up, what skaters doing crazy shit, just slamming, whatever,
did you look up to?
There were a lot of dudes I looked up to
when I was younger. Dressen was bad, Vallely.
Knox, just the guys who had sick style, skate
pretty much everything but fast. Definitely
John Lucero. He's real sick too. Of course the
greats like Gonz and Natas. Stranger rips his
ass off, so many dudes. JJ Rogers, I used to
get stoked to see pictures of that guy, he was
burly. Ben Schroeder, those guys went off.
You'd see those guys in the videos always
having gnarly sequences, that's usually when
I'm pretty stoked. Dudes like Neil Blender,
Jason Jessee, those dudes were crazy. You
could just totally tell it was them just by the
way they did a trick or something. That's the
only thing that lacks a little bit now. I guess
most of the tricks that you can actually do
have been done, but I think people should
focus on more of the older tricks. A lot of
people don't even do them. You should be
able to do the old tricks before the new ones.
In mid-town Manhattan, a lien 180"
(left) was all it took to get the money
for beer. At the NYC waterfront,
Timmy (right) skipped a frontside
bluntslide on a wooden bench. On
the West Coast, a frontside to fakie
happened for Tim (sequence) at the
China Banks. The little guy has the
shit dialed. A true master of all tight
trannies, Tim (below) gets busy on
an Indy out of a bowl in Bennington,
Vermont. Once again, the doctor is
in (below left) on a tall wallride.
The first pros that I ever saw skate were Tom
Boyle and Sean Miller. Those guys would go up so
high on the vert ramp. I thought it was insane.
Those guys have been ripping forever. Barker
Barrett too. Those guys are all rippers.
Do you like skating pools?
Fuck yeah. When I was in California, these
guys took me to LA, and I got to skate like four or
five pools, it was pretty sick. On the East you can't
really do that. Pools are pretty much seasonal..
Then just this last time I was out there, me and a
couple guys went to Salba's house and skated a
whole bunch of pools. It was crazy as hell, killer
pools, sick trannies. Burnside's crazy too. That
whole place is just cement with bowls and shit. I
can't even believe kids aren't into skating that
kind of shit.
Any closing comments?
