happens all the time. We used to take trips to Zona, go through Cali, hit
all the shit. Pat Quirke would ride the trains, so he'd see 'em all from the
train, jump off and check out all these pools and make the righteous map
and come back and say. "Look at this killer map. One time, me and Andy
got in the car, brought the Q with us with the map, headed down 99, he
would have all these maps and shit, and we'd go on the road. We'd go to
Arizona, the capital for pools. We got friends there so we'd hang out.
Who's on top of the pools right now?
Salba. We were down in that Northridge zone, that was one of the
best days of my life. We went with Phelps, and he called Salba up, he gave
us a little list to check out. We rode like seven pools in one day, they were
all kill. After that we rode Kelly's. Too much. Pools in Seattle come in sea-
sons. We got 'em April to June, right before summer.
What about Beer City? What are those guys all about?
I got a model with them. I got a small one out, and I wanted a bigger
shape, so he's going to put both of them out. Mike's a good guy. He's got
a good outlook on how shit is. He knows what he's doing. He's not out
there to fuck anyone over, he's doing everyone a good deal. He treats me
really well. I'm stoked to be hooked up with him.
Scott, do you ever find yourself ever getting a little boisterous after
indulging in a little alcohol?
Yeah, I get a little aggro. Sometimes it gets too gnarly. In Mammoth
with Alva, they threw this party at the bar, and I freaked out, loaded, throw
a toilet through a mirror. Sometimes I do stupid shit, sometimes it's fun.
If you can do stuff and not hurt anyone, it's cool. Trying to curn it lately.
What about your band Nobody? Why Nobody?
I didn't name it Nobody, Richard did, the guitarist. I'm just going along
with it. He toured around, he was in the Insults, back in the day.
What's that guy all about, old punk rocker?
Yeah, he's rad. He's been around. He's left-handed, but he plays the gui-
tar right-handed. He's got this cool style. He's been playing for a long
time. He used to tour with the Dils and stuff, and we think that stuff's rad
now, but he's like, "That's just a blur to me..."
He was there, he lived it. It's history.
What kind of tunes do you usually like to
kick it with?
Coffee and punk rock in the morning is
good. We always listen to a lot of Sabbath
when we're skating. It's not too fast, but it's
heavy, and it stokes you out. Mostly old stuff.
How'd you like the Warped tour ramp?
I don't know, I saw all those rollerblade
queers out there grabbing. I seen this mag,
and they're saying this guy's doing a half-Cab
or something, I'm not buying it! Fuck, they
do these fat airs and fully hang up. They
don't even smooth it out, they just land on
the coping. You don't have to work your way
up and take some packs. I saw this blader up
at the snake runs in Canada. I never see
them wipe out. It's like, "When are these
guys going to take some slams?" Then this
guy comes up, he'd never been in the bowl
before, he slammed, and I was so stoked. I
started laughing right at him, and all the guys
I was with were just laughing too 'cause I was
laughing in this guy's face. It was so harsh, he
got up and felt stupid, tried to drop back in
and immediately packed again super hard,
and I just couldn't control myself. I dropped
my board, fell on the ground, holding my
gut. It was so funny. We walked up the hill to
kick it by the car, and every time he wiped
out we were honking the horn, just laughing.

Don't hurt yourself, just ride because you
want to ride. If you're doing it for any other
reason, it's a geek.
Smiley (sequence) rarely leaves the confines of the
Ramphouse, so it's no wonder that he can bust the
big can-con varials. He only goes outside (above)
when it's snowboard season so he can yank big
360° Indys, Scattle and Smiley go hand in hand.
