BATTLE ON THE BAY
A COLD GRAY BLANKET OF CLOUDS SETTLED OVER
San Francisco for the crew of professional street skaters
who gathered en masse during the weekend of October
28th and 29th. With Red's Java House on one side, a
freakin' carnival on the other, and the Bay Blocks out
front, what better place to hold the throw-down of the
year, the Battle of the Bay street championships? A field
of eighty-six top skaters was mowed down on Saturday so
the remaining thirty-five could go for the gusto on Sunday
with over five thousand dollars in prize booty up for grabs.
The course consisted of a huge center pyramid with a flower bed in the middle and
assorted banks and obstacles strewn about. Sitting on the landing side of the pyramid
was a big bank with a channel. There were hips with desks on top located along both
sides of the course. A quarter-pipe connected lines over a fence onto a wallride ramp
on the other side and the competitors were taking advantage of it in the sickest ways
Chris Sean (left) upped the ante with ramp to
ramp transfers over the chain link fence.
Ethan Fowler (right) powered the flowers.
