SKATEBOARDER MAY BE JAILED
PORT JERVIS-Kevin Kneiss, Port
Jervis' record-holder for arrests for
unlawful skateboarding, may be
headed for Orange County Jail.
Kneiss, 19, who says he lives to
skateboard, failed to perform the
100 hours of community service to
which he was sentenced by City
Court Judge Lila F Levy-Dino on
May 5.
After finding Kneiss guilty of
skateboarding, and of harassment
for shoving a police officer, Levy-
Dino ordered Kneiss to complete
the service with the Port Jervis
Department of Public Works by
the end of May. If he failed to com-
plete the sentence, Levy-Dino said,
Kneiss would get 15 days in jail
Kneiss did 67 hours of general
labor with the DPW, chief court
clerk Edwina Wulff said yesterday,
adding that she expected the judge
to decide today when Kneiss should
return to court for resentencing.
Kneiss could not be reached for
comment.
By his own admission, Kneiss has
been arrested at least a half-dozen
times for violating the city's six-
year-old ban on skateboarding in
public places, enacted after the
death of a five-year-old skateboard-
er in an accident with a car.
Kneiss pleaded guilty Wednes
day to yet another skateboarding
charge. He was fined $25, the
maximum allowable for violating
the ban, and his skateboard was
ordered held by police for 30 days.
