PRINT TIME
The epic photo narrative document Fuck You Heroes by Glen E Friedman has
been garnering critical acclaim in such publications as Vibe, Spin, Source, Grand
Royal, Paper and The New York Press. GEF was just observed skating at Kenter
Canyon prior to his opening at the Julie Rico Gallery in Santa Monica. Following
the session, the media fave flew back to NYC to hook up his Gotham debut.
Friedman gifted all his friends with freshly-minted Jap-
anese hooker phone cards. The LA opening crowd may or
may not have included: Mark Gonzales

ASK THE
DOCTOR
While it's our job to
keep abreast of skat-
ing, this organization
is biting our line.
Chuy Madrigal, one-time pro slalom skate
racer, has become a marketing guru and event
director, Recent activities include a surf series for
the Prime Ticket network. Chuy recently was
seen in the company of Jimmy Ganzer and
Herbie Fletcher throwing
about the topic of a Pro-
TV Skate Series. Other
legendary surf-skate
notables in the vicin-
ity included Kelly

and the lovely Lauren, Ice-T and the rav-
ishing Darlene, Bob Biniak, Brian Baker,
The legendary Colonel Bacchus
is so far out in space that he can
only ride a trick stick that has as
many personalities as he does.
Robert Williams, Gregg Ayres, Shawn Stern, FRUIT LOOPS
Christian Hosoi, Wally Holiday, John Walsh, Steve
Olson, Tony Alva, Lowboy, Paul Constantineau and
even GEF's mother, who video-taped the whole deal.
Slater, Kirk Putnam, Sandow Birk and Greg
Escalante. Reportedly, Escalante and Slater had
a heated discussion over E's intrusive spy-camera
techniques. Birk claimed to be neutral, but in
reality he was really functioning as a reporter for
trendophiles Bikini Magazine.
SELL OUT
Gone to New York but not forgotten, Trans-
world Snowboard Magazine has purportedly
been sold to the Time/Mirror publishing con-
glomerate. Perhaps they can figure a way to
get blood from a stone when it comes
to old ad revenue. The Trashmen
wish their sympathies to all involved.
Mike Brambles, a former LAPD
elite Intelligence Unit officer, has
been arrested for allegedly rob-
bing a bicycle store. Mike, a
long-time fixture in the
Santa Monica/West
Los Angeles surf and
skateboard scene,
is rumored to
have been set-
up. Even the notorious Beverly Hills madam,
Elizabeth Adams, says he's been framed. Many
westside skaters considered Brambles to be an
extremely straight up dude. How many cops can
you name who can curb grind?
Which former mega-manufacturer seems
obsessed with the concept that Steve Rocco has
allegedly alienated his brother Sal. To spur fur-
ther speculation, was not SMA czar
Skipperboy Engblom seen in
Eddie Talbot's ET Emporium
wringing Rocco's neck?
Which world-class mover
was seen asking Richard.
Novak where he thought
the industry was headed?
Which heavy punk ripper
HELLO
recently evened
the score with
an old flame
by cutting some serious rubber off her car
when she left early with the entire Girl team? Did
she also take on Tas Pappas in a lifeboat while
crossing the English Channel?
Rodger Warner moved out of his CEO slot at
Prime Ticket after negotiating a merger deal of
which his cut was a rumored 18 million dollars.
Warner was also recently seen talking with ex-
longshoreman Chuy Madrigal.
Jeff Klindt appeared misty-eyed as he enter-
tained several Japanese business associates in
the Tonga Room. Was it a rush of emotion over
the art of the deal or was it just the fact that it
was raining inside of the club?
POOL SCHOOL
Jody Foster devotee Brian Brannon has been
spotted with such stellar luminaries as Ice Cube,
Bootsy Collins, George Clinton, Duck Dunn and
Steve Cropper. This flurry of activity has created
rumors regarding a forthcoming JFA dropping.
Jay Adams recently showed up at the Maui
Bowl sporting a new stick which looked remark-
ably like his old Z Model. Talk has it that the vet-
eran skater is re-issuing this board with Z again.
Maui action associates Kale Sandridge and Jef
Hartsell were silent on the matter.
Fish, seen on the Continent with the MTV girl,
is said to be hooking up a compilation collection
for IRS Records. Tribal music was in vogue in
London, and Fisher's Indian background appar-
ently qualifies him for record executive status.
GERMAN CHOCOLATE
Ethan Fowler, Wade Speyer, Ed Templeton,
Mako Urabe, Frazier, Hendrix and Crum all
looked strong at the Münster Champs. Mean-
while, Christian Fletcher was denied access to
the contest, thus adding to his formidable list
of organizers boy-
cotts. It's happened
so many times, is it
a coincidence?
Sonja Catalano
and the crew of
fogies had a contest
all
in the shadow of the
Venice Beach area
that drew throngs
but lacked the pol-
ish that comes with
the years served.
Highlights may or
may not have been
Donger killing the top ten, Bill "Puck" Weiss
murdering himself with beer in hand off the jump
ramp only to have his board run over by the car
obstacle, Henry Sanchez switch backside tails-
liding the car, The Gonz eggplanting the tight
quarter-pipe, Christian blasting off and the
crowd going bananas, Mike Carroll-too raw
and clean. Other top ten cutsters included Rick
Howard, Willy Santos and top dog Omar
Hassan. The post-contest pool party was one for
the history books, as a
sweet right-handed kidney
was torn to bits by the likes
of Coco Santiago, Aaron
Murray, Block, Dave
Duncan, Jen O'Brien,
Hosoi, Smiley, Quirk and
the king of all that is gnar,
Mark "Monk" Hubbard,
who, on a dare and $31
rolled into the deep end
in the dark with only the
aid of lighter light. The
screams could be heard all
the way in Bakersfield.

BRIDGE OF DEATH
After months of speculating upon whether or not the
Daily Grind Skatepark in Sacramento would rise
again, the truth has finally been told. It will happen
and the facility will be top-notch. Prior to the opening,
NorCal extreme sportsman Aaron Vincent slices over
a makeshift trapdoor in the custom bowl built by
Gary Cross and the locals. The street course and vert
ramp are said to be bad ass as well.
TIRED TRADE
Tony Guerrero departed Deluxe to pursue his
snowboard career. Allegations that Tony was the
suspected leak to a certain Bay Guardian printed
anti-skate exposé still persist. Once again, the
buzz word in the snowboarding industry has to
do with electromagnetic bindings.
The ASR San Diego was the site of mass vert
destruction as a ramp was provided to showcase
that vert is back. Those in the know were laugh-
ing as they commenced to go for it. Dragon-
slayers of note remind us that Neal Hendrix went
eight-foot to fakie, Hawk took control, Tas kick-
flip 540'ed, Adil hung it out to dry, Magnusson
SHOW ROOM
In a well-lit place there is
always time for a smile and
a pose. This time it was in
Santa Monica with Darlene,
Glen Friedman, Ice-T and
Tony Alva looking back on a
heap of history while Gonz
and lauren shared a hug
and a laugh.
bailed, Mountain flailed, Frazier 540'ed and
Weiss got his ass ripped open. While the energy
was focused on the ramp, looters of all types
were in command and rolling. Harold Hunter
and Jeff Pang, took control and had the duffel
bags to prove it. The real deal is that true vert
never left. Later that night, some team from the
LA area was seen outside the Focus party beat-
ing roof on Jason Rogers.
