DUNE ON GAMBLING
On May 22nd, 1994, James Kelch, Keith Hufnagel, Mike Daher, Phil
Shao, Greg Carroll, Matt Pailes, Paul Zuanich, Chris Keeffe, Nick
Tershay, Joe Sierro, and me, Chris Pastras, embarked on a three-van,
three-day convoy for a Saturday demo in Reno, Nevada. Aside from
skating, everyone was looking for cheap entertainment by way of
sleazy casino nightlife. We found it.
Two nights of taking Circus Circus
(playground for wannabe gangsters)
by storm meant lots of lost quarters,
dollar bills and integrity. Not to men-
tion free drinks in the company of the
assorted travelers and Nevada dregs
who walk around thinking how their
sad lives will somehow improve if they
could only hit that jackpot.
A day's skating regained the con-
voy's self-worth and cured the hang-
overs. This is what separates us from
the Reno sleaze: We roll, they watch
Home Shopping Network and drool.
It was a fun weekend, and I want to
thank Attitude, Deluxe, Think, Dyrdek,
and all Reno's skaters. Don't give in to
the dark side, gambling is an addiction
even worse than rollerblading.
