That would fix it up right there.
Yeah, because I haven't seen anybody do
that yet, but I know people can do it because
they're doing Caballerial heelflip Indy grabs.
How do you feel the whole coverage thing
relates to the tricks you do?
Lately I've been trying to show people that I
don't just ollie over things. I've met people from
different states who thought that's all I could do.
Is there hidden racism in skateboarding?
I'm sure there still is. There are a lot of warped
people out there, but a lot of people don't seem
to show it, especially in California. There are so
many racist people here. I've met a lot of people
that are weird that way, but they don't really
want to show it because you have so many other
racists out here that you get it from every race.
There are so many different people that unless
you're with a big group, you won't show it.
Are there certain kids you like to hang with
and some you just don't get along with?
Well, now it doesn't seem like there's a lot that
I don't get along with. There's some that I just sit
back and hang out and watch because they're a
little bit too much for me.
Do you mean mentally or physically?
Well, Simon's fresh. If I were to go skating with
him, I'd probably watch him more because I hear
about a lot of stuff he does trickwise, and I'd
probably freak-out if he were in a bikini. I'd be
all, "Whoa." I hear he does this cross-legged flip
thing, but I haven't gotten to see that yet.
Who are some of the best skaters right now?
Bill Pepper, Tas, those guys just rule, so many.
Why Bill Pepper?
Because I went to Napa and just everything he
does, he does it big. It doesn't seem he crunch-
es down to pop it or anything, it's just there, he
Gershon takes many pushes and many slams when he is
on the hunt for the clean trick. A greasy edge (left) gives
no resistance in the frontside bluntslide mode. All over SJ,
Gersh (above) knows the spots: Switch backside 180° at
an abandoned health club. No, not another fake 360° flip,
but a fakie heelflip (right) down the Five at Lions Plaza.
does a kickflip, just barely popping it, and he's
two feet off a bank or something. And then
when he actually puts some effort into it, he gets
two more, he's like four feet
What about Caballero? He's from San Jose.
Yeah, Steve is fresh too. Actually, he's rad
because he's totally keeping up with all the
skateboard tricks. I see him every now and then.
Why is everybody doing 360 flips now?
I don't know. It just seems like the tricks have
digressed. People want style and everything so
they don't go for some of the different tricks, like
a lot don't people do frontside varial heelflips
that much or just basic tricks that were a little bit
more tech than say a kickflip or a 360 flip. And
I think in that aspect, Yoshi's way fresh because
he's different, he even made up a trick that is
way different from a lot of stuff people do now. I
think he gets points for that, though,
Yoshi is super tech.
Yeah, he's bad though, dude. I've seen him do
some rad shit. I like all kinds of skateboarding.
Sometimes you see somebody doing old school,
but it's still skating.
What other interests do you have?
I don't really do that much other than skate-
boarding at this point. I'm kind of just now start-
ing to actually move on to different people.
Who are five of the best skaters of all time?
Jeremy Klein, Rodney Mullen, Sal Barbier and
Duane Peters, because I saw in Thrasher a while
back and it was saying he was trying to go the
full 360 around the pipe, and that's pretty nuts
to even think about, and I'm sure he did a lot of
other shit that I had never really saw, but I heard
lots of things about him. And who else? Tony
Hawk, he's still going too. But others, it's kind of
hard to number them.
Did you ever wipe-out really hard on a hill?
I did go down some of the mellow hills in San
Jose and I've fallen a bit. I fall everyday

How do you deal with it when you can't skate?
Usually like I'll tweak my ankle and try to skate any
ways because the more you exercise your ankle, the
closer you'll get to healing it, so that's how I deal with
those, but I've never totally screwed myself other than
my back. I was doing a trick on a mini-ramp and I fell to
my lower back and I couldn't walk for a little bit
Are you going to tour Europe this summer?
Yeah, I want to go to Europe.
How old are you?
Twenty
What's your favorite kind of food?
It used to be steak and macaroni, but I don't get too
much of that right now.
Do you have a car?
I still don't drive.
Are you religious?
Nah, not at all. Everybody has their own beliefs, but I
don't get into formed religions because there's a lot of
hypocrites there.
If you had one message to the world, what'd it be?
Don't judge other people from what you see the first
time, maybe check them out more than once.
Do you want to say thank you to anybody?
Yeah, thanks to Alex Vecciet and No Control, John my
roommate, Eric Davis, Sean Dolinsky and Lance Dalgart,
Slappy, Alex Goldberg, Eric Meyer, Simple, Bob and
Gloria, and Milk
