If Ice Cube were president, the world would be a differ-
ent place. "I would give black people the money owed to
them for 300 years of slavery," he says. "I would give them
the land owed to them with an outlet to the sea, rich in soil,
so we could grow our own plants, and I would declare that t
be our own country."

But Cube doesn't expect to become president soon, he has
long since come to distrust anything remotely tied to the govern-
ment. "I don't expect no white man to help me," he says. "Every
last president lied to get in there, look at their track record."
Instead of involving himself in "Politricks," Cube uses his music to
create dialogue, or, as he puts it, "stir the beehive."
His latest album, Lethal Injection, is meant to sting its listeners.
Cube wants to eradicate despair and self-loathing amongst his
people in favor of pride, knowledge and empowerment. "Our
problem, as black people, is we still think America owes us
something and is going to give us something," he says, "but,
they ain't giving up nothing. We've got to stop being dependent
people. Everything we get, we've got to take. Not just physically."
But before anything constructive can happen, Cube says, people
need to get together. "We need to love and respect ourselves before
we can love anyone else. We're so forgiving when it comes to the peo-
ple that enslaved our ancestors, but we can't forgive the brother who
owes us $5.00." He continues by adding, "We need to respect each
other, then the rest of the world will respect us."
