"I don't care what people say about me.
I'm just out there having fun, that's why
I started skating. It doesn't seem like there
are a lot of people having fun skating now."
The Last American Virgin
The clown from Campbell knows no bounds. Simon Woodstock is a colorful character who is not afraid to take chances. But despite
his comedic charades, Simon is a gifted street skater who works out on everything from wheeled snowboards, to rolling skim-
boards, to a double-nosed deck with one truck in the back and two trucks in the front that he calls "The Two-Headed Snake."
I heard you dreamt that you lost your teeth.
Yeah, they just rotted out of my head. I ran
out of my bed and looked in the mirror expect-
ing to be Gummasaurus Rex, but they're all there.
I had a dream that I heelflipped the Gonz in my
bare feet and the whole EMB crew was there.
They lifted me up on their shoulders and all these
roses flew in n the bricks like when a bull.
fighter but it was just a dream.
What's up with all of these weird boards?
After riding a regular board for so many years
I started getting bored and stopped progressing
so I set up something different. Like if I set up
an ironing board, it's hard
enough just to ride, so if I did
a pop shove-it I'd be stoked.
if I rode a regular board right
now I really don't know
what I would have to do to
What's up with the skim?
I always wanted to skim
but the scene got too beat,
too chakka man. So I mount-
ed some trucks and wheels
and now I can skim world-
wide, beach or no beach.
What's the advantage of
the skimboard?
Well, it has a bigger wheel-
base and wheels, so it's
faster that a normal board. It also has a wing so
when you're ollieing gaps it kind of floats and you
can coast further distances. It's also wider, two
foot as opposed to seven inches, so you have a
better chance of landing your tricks. Mo and
Jeff Toland are the Nor-Cal skim team.
What's that thing over there?
You mean the Double Trouble? It has trucks
mounted on top and bottom so you can always
land your flip tricks.
What's the latest trick you pulled on it?
360° one-and-a-half-flips, blunt Casper half-flips
to fakie. It's pretty cool to cruise around on.
Some people might say that with all these
costumes and crazy boards, you're just out
there doing this to get coverage.
Fuck them. I don't really care about what those
people have to say about me. I'm just out there
having fun, that's why I first started skating. It
doesn't seem like there's a lot of people having
fun skating now.
What motivates you?
Diet Coke. I got to get the caffeine, a Big
Gulp in the morning and two more during the
day. If I don't get enough, my system starts to
shut down from lack of caffeine. There's a com-
mercial that says that no
one can drink more than
four Big Gulps in a day
but I'm going to do it. I'm
making it a personal goal,
five Big Gulps in one day. I
don't know if my body can
take it, that's going to be
a big caffeine stress day
but I'm going to do it.
Some say you're one of
the last true punkers.
Yeah I guess that's pret-
ty flattering. I always dye
my hair, but that's part of
my deal. See, Salman has
his bald head and I have
my dyed hair. But I like
