TOUR TIME
Klindt. Thiebaud, Agah and
Guerrero are back from Nippon,
where Real stuff is considered
a hot high-fashion tip. In
accordance, presumably, with
this odd state of affairs, Mr.
Tommy cut off all his hair. The
nature of protest, perhaps?
Undercover on the Japan street
sessions were Jiro Hanave
and Yoshi Yamata. Basin lo-
cals Bukka Kanagal, Yuki
Ikuta and Nobo Osml. Equally
de-centralized and immersed in
the unique cultural configuration
of the new Japan are Billy Al
Valentine, Jive Master Rick
and Nathan Pratt. Whether or
not it has any reference to this
tale, JMR designs a clothing
line which is the darling of the
smart style set. Rumor has it,
in the immediate future Mr.
Nathan will front a warehouse
ramp in Nagasaki.
NICE GUYS
Talking commitment, is it true
that George Powell is designing
a mega-vert ramp with Todd
Hastings and the crew, 10
be sited in Santa Barbara?
Word also talks of a new
street environment. Equally
committed is the fact that
Powell and Peralta drop
$18.000 each month to sub
sidize their skatepark.
Which manu burned an-
other manu's video footage
and presented it as his own. Are
retaliations in order?
Mark Gonzales gets around astride/enclosed in
his latest innovation. Before moving to NYC to
paint, Mark was seen near Mountain manor
executing a four-block rolling loop.
FLAT AND PROUD
From the deep-end minds of the legal
profession: Is it true that Steve Rocco is
wallpapering his office with cease and
desist notices from assorted lawyers over
alleged "trademark infringements"? Have
the esoteric Colvinetics and Lee Burger
boards become collectibles? Equally
obscure and highly coveted by the forty-

Holknekt and Welinder
have purportedly cornered
the market on these nar-
row, dead-flat cues which
look more like modern
street decks every day (or
is that vice-versa?).

(right) went on a
rampage as he
tried to break Bozo
Miller's pie-eating
record of 24 in one
sitting. He ate one
whole and was on
the second when
the restaurant ran
out. How's that for
bad planning?
Larry Balma, Chip Morton and Sherm
recently decided to test Tod 'give me a
chainsaw and I'll build you a house"
Swank's skill. Swank adroitly leveled sev
eral pieces of furniture by eye, utilizing a
fourteen-inch electric model. Word has it
that Swank is shaping concave plugs for
his F-Troop from solid logs.
POWER FORWARD
Long-time sand, surf, concrete- and
wood floor-type, Jack Haley Jr., is now
playing for the Los Angeles Lakers. Notori-
ous surf/skate types have been seen
hanging at the Forum in recent days. Most
visible is Rolls-rolling Jack Haley Sr..
long-time board maker and one-time US
surfing champ.
TEAM SCHEME
Was Ray Underhill let go from the
Powell-Peralta stable for greener pastures
at Fishlips? Will he still skate the Hawk
Facility, for free? Does Bucky Lasek really
sing in Karioki bars? Is Fred Gall actually
being flown to Germany to hook up with
Waage, Daclin and Semmoh?
Santarossa and Hassan both in the
Acme house.
Youssefpour is rumored generally
unattached and now planted in a four-
month snowboarding binge.
Hosoi was out for a couple weeks be-
hind a severe wrist/knee tweak and is
fronting an ever-newer company and even
fresher posse. Have Christ and Gonz be-
come the team of the nineties? Will this
one-two punch be a foreshadowing of
things to come? Is the team called Milk run
by a man named Chicken? Is Ron Chat-
man involved?
Did Steve Berra leave his hotel in the
middle of the night after being accosted by
one Jovante Turner?
Is Natas Kaupas the youngest owner of
a Acura NSX on record?
Did Kareem Campbell lose his wallet on
tour with over $1,200 in it?
Hot shoes for the nineties department:
Shawn Mandoli, Edward Devera, Max
Schaaf, Willy Santos and Karl Watson.
New graphics tatts: Agah and Thiebaud.
Does Speyer ride for the Corporation?
Do Howell, Hall. Barbier and Ibeseta
together form Underground Element?
Is Don Fisher thinking about a new
career after leaving Vision?
Thinking about Think: Josh Swindell
and Sergie Ventura.
MODEL CITIZENS
Sims: Roy and Hirata.
Powell Peralta: Brennan and Senn
Think: Toland and Bertino.
Still waiting: Steinhorst, Astorga and
Greg Carroll.
Models gone: Youssefpour, Goodman
and J.J. Rogers.
AREA CODE 619
Will one more or another skateboard
company change the world? Will Ridge-
way attend film school? Will Joe Bowers
return to Tennessee to found another ama-
teur skate circuit? Will Hosse retire on un-
employment? Is Hawk the new guru of
skate videos? Will Rich Flowerday return
to Nebraska and the corn business? Is
Beau Brown training full-time for slalom?

Red Dog Muir said to be contemplating
a move (perhaps back to the hood?).
Mike Muir's not-so-secret alternative
group Infectious Grooves (allegedly in-
tended to get around some LA club own-
ers anti-Suicidal Tendencies policy) is
now rumored to be jumping up the ladder
of status and achievement. Translation:

Are Hensley and Park seriously doing
business as 'rumored"?
HANG TIME
Omar Hassan broke and cislocated his
ankle in a freak accident on Friday the
13th at the Hangar in Charleston, SC, the
night before the pro bowl contest. The
event went on as scheduled, with twelve
entrants making a good show and Neal
Hendrix taking it from local Blaize Blouin.
After Blaize, it went Brian Howard, Leap-
hart, Luxford and Buck Smith.
BEEFCAKE AWARD
He came, he tried, he got denied. Ailn
O'Brocklin caught air then rear-ended a
parked Pinto luge-style at fifty-plus on San
Francisco's Clipper Street. Results: one
broken leg. one compressed back, one trip
to the emergency ward. From his hospital
bed, Ailn told nightly newscasters he'd be
back, 'on the very same hill," to try and
break the speed record again.
