MEDIA BLITZ
These days anyone can slap together a
video, and everyone with a team to pro-
mote is doing it. Here's a rundown on
some tapes now making the rounds:
A few more CELEBRATY TROPICAL FISH

deny this true power freak as he blasts 360°

SCREAM OF CONSCIOUSNESS
Burton Snowboards
Radical action by Team Burton, notably all-
stars Craig Kelly, Jeff Brushie, Mike Jacoby,
carving brothers Jean Nerva and Peter
Bauer, Euro ace Terge Haakonsen and flying
ladies Nicole Angelrath, Michelle Taggert and
Ashild Loftis. There's smoking vintage
footage of Jake Burton Carpenter and crew
on the first backhill models in the early eight-
ies, insane stairwell roof boarding, and Nerva
and Bauer radical side-by-side flat-out edge-
carving virgin terrain. As with most snow
vids, the free- and heli-boarding makes the

halfpipe contests look feeble and robotish.
Other shenanigans include Craig offering a
cop a donut after he pulls them over (hope-
fully not for throwing a bowling ball out the
van at 60 m.p.h., which they do later).
PARTNERS IN CRIME

The New Kids On The Block got nothing on
these guys. The boys from Pacifica have re-
leased their first, quite funny vid. The open-
ing segment of Mike Kepper is the ultimate
skate harassment, three cops and a old Ger-
man Shepard do a number on the poor boy.
For authenticity, cops don't wear white socks.
Upstarts Adams and Bertino have killer parts,
but sometimes it is a little slow with various Q
& A: "What do you think of Cochrane?" Luke
Ogden says it best, "I don't." The funniest line
is by Greg Carroll, who tells Keith, "I would
die for you, dude. All in all a valiant first of-
fort. A lot of street, some mini and very little
vert, which is the way it is in this crazy world
of skateboarding today. As for the gun trip,
what is with that?

POCAHONTAS
Wave Rave/Mack Dawg
Mike McIntyre's snowboard vids are always
skate-oriented. In order of their degree of rip-
ping all terrain and conditions: Noah Salas-
nek, Nick Perata, Jon Biacchi, Andy Hetzel,
Monty Roach, Jeff Brushie, Dave Hatchett,
Andy Brewer, Heather Mills, Tina Basich
Jimmy Halapoff, Ranquet, Palmer-you get

bench rides and even a nasty sequence
where the boys all slide a taut steel cable
over a creek bed and one guy almost gets.
de-balled when he literally hangs up. Poke
features skate/snow crossover with Salas-
nek, Ranquet, Vincent, Vogt and others tak-
ing it out on wood. You can never get enough
beef sequences, and this serves enought
chow to feed an army. -Mark Hendry
TROOPS OF TOMORROW
Santa Cruz
Troops proves Santa Cruz kept only the
best after cutting the fat off their team.
Kendall, Knox and Dressen show dexterity
and commitment. The am approach is more
psycho and raw; Mosely, Selliner and Roth-
meyer fit in this category. Jason Jessee's
insecurity is funny, but dated, as the fat man |
learning to street skate. He does bust one-
footed Caballerials, though. Bod Boyle has a
varial line at the dog shit ramp that is unbe-
lievable. If you think vert is out, you're weak.
Steward Kendall (no relation to Jeff) skies
540 tail grabs. Good and short, the way I like
'em. Subliminal messages are spiced.

Old Dealers Howell, Sargent and Morrison
join upstarts Knigge, Hall and Barajas in a
fast-paced skate romp. Highlights include
Chris Fissel's frontside ollie lipslide kickflip off
a wood box, Sargent's switchstance backside

Vallely's bio beef, and, just when it gets bor-
ing. Neal Hendrix saves the day. Eastern
