tow truck. Not to be outdone. Rich
Novak, the "scourge of the back coun-
try, has been clocked at 42 m.p.h.
downhill off-road on his mountain bike..
On a recent afternoon, what skate in-
dustrialist was chased by state park
rangers for MBX trespassing, but at
press time is still evading capture?
Micke Reyes and Thiebaud have
been curb dogging more than a little
lately. Industry types claim that Klindt
and the Thiebster desire to start yet an-
other company to take advantage of the
pool of talent around.
QUESTIONS
Will Mike Smith be forcibly moved
from his house? Will Lance Mountain
go into business for himself? Will Tony
Magnusson open up a Swedish motor
scooter dealership in Diego? Will Gor-
don soon join Smith? Will David Car-
son send out professionally crafted
videos of his wedding?
Will Danny Way's shotgun pump ac-
tion graphic become the next parentally
banned graphic of choice?
Skate vendor DT's in Lomija, Califor
nia, was personally egged by which
manufacturer?
HIGH BEAMS
Has Santa Barbara skate type Jim
Knight moved closer to the ranks of
music promotion types? Did a recent gig
at Club Anaconda (site of a Bank of
America burned to the ground by angry
hippies) feature Knight designs in abun-
dance? Also on location were the Meat
Puppets, Frankie Hill and Pigface.
Clarence Diamond. Adrock Horo-
witz and MCA Youch, a.k.a. the
Beastie Boys, have recently been cut-
ting a new record while lamping in an
L.A. Silverlake-area warehouse com-
plete with a skate ramp and basketball
hoop. On stage in N.Y. were Ice-T and
Glen Friedman, who managed to com-

WAY
The ballots are in and Betty X, the Thrasher
computer, has spewed out the winner of the 1991
Readers Poll for Skater of the Year. The top four
nominees were separated by an incredulously
small point spread. Danny was awarded a bronze
statuette at a banquet in his honor. Stay tuned.
upcoming book, which neglected to
mention the skate and punk stuff. Ice-T
referred to his upcoming film as "ninety
minutes of mayhem."
Curiously, while some blame Spike,
others blame Dirt magazine. Imagine.
seeing Ray Barbee, Jason Lee, Natas
Kaupas, Guy Mariano, et. al. in a low
maintenance fashion article.
Bloodshot, featuring Nathan and
Christian Fletcher, is making moves.
ADVENTURE FILE
Sturt and Hensley decided to session
the big Seattle sombrero, so they drove
non-stop. Upon arrival they got one run,
one shot and kicked out. So, they drove
all the way back. Total non-stop miles:
thousands. Photos: one. Rides: one.
Busts: one.
Alaskan skaters/snowboarders are at-
tacking some remote surf breaks in
earnest lately. With 40 or so water, you
only ride the best. Tim Bowler has been
shaping a few and is reported to be
recreating the old Liddle-League ramp
on a small Alaskan island.
ZINE OF THE HOUR
A most recent issue of Dick's Book,
featuring Jeff Grosso and John Lucero
in flagrant Del photo and poses the
ancient Celtic proverb: "The youth
who cannot cry is a savage. The old
man who cannot cry is a savage."
Dick's Book is an amazing amalga-
mation of witlessness/wisdom. Mr. Laird
of Bridge of Signs, Ausatin, Texas, de-
serves serious philosophical accolades.
AROUND THE LEAGUE
Following the recent blitz on Biarritz,
France, by many skate notables includ-
ing Hawk and Barbee, who could be
surprised that Mossimo Giannulli will
now exhibit his ramp at the Louvre? Also
rumored to be there are Norma Kamali,
Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren. Chalk
it up to cross-cultural fertilization meets
corporate ingenuity.
The preceding thought is not to be in-
terpreted with Mike Carroll's stroke-it
graphics program.
Kris Markovich has been observed
doing switchfoot blunt slide-to-backside
lipslide the hard way.
