the driveway. The rabbit split
down a little trail and we went
running after it. We ran a hun-
dred feet when the jack jumped
up on a wooden roof sticking out
of the ground. The rabbit just
turned around and stared at me
as I put my sights on him. The
way he looked at me tripped me
out, so I lowered my bow and he
boogied. Specs and I walked to
the roof and looked inside. We
couldn't believe our eyes.
Salba: [Nodding in agreement]. I
called Suki Suki after I got back
from the pool. [Looking at Naka-
ma]. I asked him to bring the
pump. He brought it over and
wanted to help but couldn't. He
had already taken too many days
off that month. The next day.
Rando, Specs and I commenced
draining ceremonies and
watched the green scum disap-
pear. The pump stopped after
awhile, when green slime
clogged the hoses. It was a big,
smelly mess. We planned on
skating early that morning, think-
ing the sun would dry it up, but
we didn't count on the two-and-a-
half feet of pure sludge we'd
have to shovel out. It smelled so
bad, we left until the next day.
John Nakama: Saturday morn-
ing, Darren and I met Salba,
Rando, and Specs at Prime Evil.
Darren had flaked out on Friday,
so I told him if he didn't help
today he couldn't skate. All five
of us took turns shoveling and
pulling shit out with ropes be-
cause the couches were water-
logged beyond belief. We all had
bandanas and/or T-shirts over
our noses. It was the worst
smelling pool I had emptied in
ten years, but it looked so rip-
pable, and the house was once a
castle. The place was cool, ex-
cept for the junk in the basement.
After awhile we took a break and
went for pizza and beer. We
were eating in the house be-
cause it was at least 105" and
smelling like dead horse shit out-
side. Then, Rando, Specs and
Salba just started staring at Dar-
ren and me. We got worried be-
cause Rando is all big with tat-
toos and rides a Harley, [looking
at Rando), Specs is all sleeved-
down and just got outta the pen,
[still looking at Rando], and
Salba is just Salba. [Turning to
Salba]. He's a freak sometimes.
you know. They kept staring, and
finally Salba looks at Rando and
says. "Should we tell them?"
Rando says, "Yeah, why not,"
and all three of them got up and
walked out of the house. They
muttered "follow us."
Salba: [Polishing off another
mug). I was kicking back that
night when I heard someone
knocking on the door. It was
Specs and Rando. They had just
come back from the ranch hunt-
ing again when they said that
they had found the motherlode.
They explained the hunt that day
and how the rabbit gave them
the evil eye. They had crawled.
through a hole in the roof and
discovered a reservoir that had
round walls like that of a bowl.
They also found a dead, dried up
rabbit near the center of it. I'm all,
Sure you guys found another
spot!" But when we arrived Sat-
urday morning to resume our
draining duties, sure enough,
there it stood. A completely
round six-foot high bowl with a
roof attached to it. "This is where
all the water came from when the
people still lived here," Rando
commented. I crawled into the
bowl and couldn't believe my
eyes. I had never ever seen any-
thing like it in all the years I've
skated. It's like the bowl in that
movie Solar Babies, if you've
ever seen that. It was, to say the
least, incredible.
Micke Alba: The pool was
bitchin' when my brother brought
me there. I hadn't been skating
much because I tore ligaments in
my knee. Anyway, after we
checked out the scene, Rando
and my bro took me to what they
now call the bowl. It was a circu-
lar reservoir with transition, but
the surface was rough. You had
to use soft wheels like at Baldy. It
was the coolest thing, finding a
skatepark after they dozed
Pipeline and all.
Steve Gable: [Glancing at
Salba). I was bummed because I
had grown up not five miles away
from Prime Evil and didn't even
know the place was there. When
Team Virgin took me there, I
couldn't believe it. The place was
gigantic and the pool was the
best pool since Dolphin Bowl two
summers ago. It was square,
with round, concave sidewalls, if
that makes any sense. We had it
all to ourselves for about twol
months, then word got out. Salba
was pissed, and he told me that
he would never again give away
his secrets. [Fade to black).
