Everyone did and most even could.
The facility remains an interesting
example of what a company can
accomplish in terms of helping out
the sport. Most importantly, over six
hundred more letters were generated
to help persuade the mayor of Santa
Barbara to open a public skate zone
in that fair city. Stay tuned for future
commentary.
PINBALL CONTEST UPDATE
Next month we announce the win-
ner of the "Radical" pinball game by
Williams. Though the mystery was
difficult, we did have a correct
answer. For those who entered the
contest without a clue, don't give up
hope, Playtime has promised to pro-
vide three Playtime Radical Talk-
ing Pinball Game with Voice, Sound
& Lights table top games for us to
give away. We will have a drawing for
these fabulous prizes.

JUNE 1989
"Thanks are in order and a toast is well over-
due," said Thrasher publisher Ed Riggins on the
eve of the 100th issue of the mag... KT urged the
new cats to get out and get skating, "or go ride a
bike. It was an issue of celebration, featuring a
look back at some of the high rollers over a con-
secutive centennial. Duane Peters powered a
mighty frontside air in the atmosphere above
Upland's hurly burly square pool and interviewed
himself: "the day you become content is the day
you might as well just dig a six-foot hole and let
rigor mortis set in... Lowboy went for the Truth
and Screwed the Consequences in a multiple
choice overview about life, liberty and the pursuit
of skateboarding Champion bio-style physicist
Steve Caballero expounded the virtues of finesse
and aggression whilst powering some high-speed
frontside ollie action. A review of one hundred
past magazines titled "Snap Back Gnarler"
revealed a mass of memories that made history...
Mike McGil shot a methodical backside over a
grinding, nose-grabbing Steadham as twilight
descended on a doomed Upland Combi-Pool... A
shot of the innovative vert-spine 1988 Irvine con-
test device showed that corporate constructions
did have something to offer Christian Hosol
blasted backside into a Q&A with KT that took a
look at the big picture and the power of the mind
over matter... Don Redondo recounted a "History
Of The Skateboard all the way from a 2x4 apple
crate with roller skate wheels to wide ply fiberglass
planks with state of the art urethane and conclud-
ed that it's alright to remember what you want...
Tony Hawk reminisced on a life of creating the
impossible and floated a fat frontsider from ramp
to bowl Original Texas skate rock rollers The
Big Boys told of the glory days when Biscuit would
go from Hell's Angel to nuclear disaster victim to
inmate from the asylum to a human Christmas tree
every night. MCM sang of a night of mirth and
music at our celebratory skate rock show that
resulted in a horrendous hangover and the desire
to find the inventor of tequila and barf all over his
lawn and dog. Over in Mail Drop land, we found
that vampires were really only a misunderstood
minority, and Jeff Guerrero requested the as-yet-
unpublished Thrasher swimsuit issue... The wrist
monster reared its ugly head in Ask The Doctor
and Blackhart prescribed a course in rolling out of
a fall... Chef-Boy-Am-1-Hungry grilled up a juicy,
poetic, gothic burger. Marc Shapiro chronicled
the making of "Batman". Jake Phelps checked
out slabs à la Jinx, Hosoi, Howell and Roskopp
and told it like it was... Trash reported some sad
and savage scenarios involving sponsored profes-
sional kick boxer Bullet team riders, a three-day
Bones Brigade skate party and long distance knife-
throwing clinics taught by photo ed M.Fo.
Somethin' Else showed the sad sight of Big O
skatepark buried up to the vert in dirt. I

LUKE OGDEN
There was a young tug
named Rick from S.F. of
all places,
Who didn't really care to
enter tug races.
While the other tugs argued whose colors
were better,
Rick sped around the bay in a
knit cap and sweater.
One day some strange looking
tugs came to port,
And like Rick they weren't the
tug racing sort.
So he joined the
group and here is
the stunner,
He's got a new
model and is touring this
summer.
