MAY 1984
Cover McShredder Chuck Treece laid back a
crucially contorted roll-out and the silhouette
of a young Hosoi graced Contents. Frank
Schweizer set the story straight on the metal
vs. punk controversy in Mail Drop, saying, "
doesn't matter what kind of music you listen
to, just as long as you skater... Coming back
from a two-month knee sprain hiatus, Dr. Rick
shared a few words on knee injuries. In The
Skater's Edge department, Bob Denike gave
some pointers on the wheres, whens, hows
and who withs of pool searching Hot
boards in Product Patrol included the Holly-
wood Sk8s Brad Bowman model, the Madrid
Explosion and the fabulous Easy Glider
Skateboard Soap Photograffiti featured
stairplants, bowl jumps, local quads and
abondoned parks from Italy to Wyoming...
Skate comix showed a skate and destroy ses-
sion at the local nuclear powerplant... What-
ever happened to way contorted inverts and
Andrechts? Ask Grigley, Cab, Beauregard
and Roskopp, they sure knew how to flap 'em
back then... Mad Dog Tony Alva talked about
classic Z times, surfing, Hawail, style, explor-
ing Europe and just plain ripping. If anybody
knows about that stuff, TA is the man... Andy
Coghlan dominated the slalom and downhill
in the World Snowboarding Championships in
Soda Springs, CA. Terry Kidwell stole the
halfpipe freestyle... Joe Lopes took the title
at the fourth annual Fogtown contest at the
Corte Madera Punk's Ramp in Mill Valley, CA
JFA man Brian Brannon challenged all
comers to a Skate Rock Showdown but never
got any takers
Pushead spewed DRI,
Marginal Man, Civil Dissent, the Dicks and
other bands Igor reviewed Sonny Rollins,
Joe Jackson and Septic Death... The Ramp
Page gave tips on coping installation
and Mike Muir sported Thrasher threads in a
gnarlical products ad. A minor Texas
fisticuff described by John Gibson in Trash
involved Craig Johnson and the defense of a
cowgirl's honor. Joe Lopes closed it off with
a hellacious handplant atop a metal trash can
atop a tall vert ramp.
