FIRST AMENDMENT FRIGHTS. By now you've definitely heard
of the repressive, regressive, blatantly racist railroad job the Florida
courts are giving the 2 Live Crew. Similar stupidity went down in
Detroit earlier this summer when the Detroit city council attempted
to wet-blanket a Public Enemy benefit basketball game at an
urban youth center by forbidding PE. to play any music or even
speak publicly. The bureauspastic types quickly withdrew their
decree, however, after PE's lawyers straightened them out All this
ugly business spotlights the fact that there is a vocal minority (with
yokel priorities) that sees the First Amendment as a hindrance to
their quest for moral domination. As a citizen of this screwed up

country, you can either stand up to this power-through-prudeness
campaign and demand your right to freedom of expression (via)
letters to elected representatives, petitions, donations, etc.) or you
can lie down, crank up somo 'decent' tunes (maybe a little Debbie
Gibson or some New Kids) and watch the thought police take over
your town.
ROCK AND RULE... Word has it that, due to forgotten ID's, gar-
gantuan gluttons of punked out pandemonium, Poison Idea actu
aly thundered through a whole show somewhere in Joisay without
a single drop of fermented fuel. Though their legendary antics were
kept to a sober minimum, PI's music stood on its own, supporting
their Kings of Punk" reputation. Look for their latest full-length Lp
(with all-new material) now. Poison Idea will also be the featured
band on the Sub Pop single of the month in November Ice
Cube's Lp, Amerikka's Most Wanted went gold in twelve days
Censor that, Tipper Gore... Sick of It All. Killing Time and Vision
are wrapping up a West Coast jaunt that left many an eardrum ring-
ingLiving Colour's new Lp should be out soon. In the mean-
time, Burnin' Vernon and the boys may be spending some time in
court. It seems they have an injunction against Fox network and the produ-
cers of the TV show "In Living Color. The band claims to have had a patent
copynght on the name since 1987. They have tried unsuccessfully to get
Fox to change the name out of court, but no dice as of yet... Former Rape-1
man and Scratch Acid drummer Rey Washer has left Hellos Creed due
to that old band breaker. "personal differences." The band's label,
Amphetamine Reptile records, says new basher Randy Krause will be a
permanent addition. The "long-awaited first U.S. appearance of Bevis
Frond had to be cancelled before it ever got rolling. It seems Bevis (ak.a.
Nick Solomon I got to the U.S. and found the band he'd lined up for the
tour wasn't ready or compatible, so back to Europe he went. He'll try again
in the fall with his regular backup band Naked Raygun is in the studio
working on Lp number five, the first with new guitarist Bill Stevens... Did
Metallica really pull a fast, furious one at London's Marquee Club by calling
themselves Vertigo and opening for Metal Church? Was the crowd staked
or what?
ROCK AROUND THE CROCK If you're into Jane's Addiction type LA
metal, check out Fun House, Caroline's latest sign-on. If you're not, forget
wa ever mentioned it. Italian screamers Negazione will play the New
Music Seminar then do a small tour of the States afterwards Hey
thrashaholics, better start doing those calisthenics so you'll be ready for the
Clash of the Titans tour. That's right. Slayer Megadeth, Testament and
Suicidal Tendencies are hitting the road together, and they're determined
to lay waste to every town in their path... Meanwhile, Prong, whose new
album is ruling, is on tour with Flotsam and Jetsam... Spotted in the stu-
dio together were Henry Rollins and the Bad Brains. The posse of D.G..
bred hardcore legends was apparently teaming up to record a cover of
MC5's "Kick Out the Jams" for the Pump up the Volume soundtrack (What
is Pump Up the Volume????) Once again, Dave Smalley has a new
band. This outfit, entitled Down By Law also features members of the
Chemical People... Leeway's second Lp is a done deal and should be
released by Profile soon Rumors that Jamie Stewart left the Cult
because he wasn't included in the ground-breaking THRASHER Interview
are unconfirmed, but he has definitely quit the band... Delicious Vinyl's
first rock signing, Masters of Reality, are a refreshing, brain-searing blast
of real rock and roll from the Zep. Montrose, AC/DC school of riffs and
righteousness.... Masters of merchandise, Sub Pop records, will soon
release Screaming Life Flesh Fop a Soundgarden CD containing their
debut Lp and their '88 Fop Ep. Soundgarden is touring with Danzig as you
read this.Pinheads and daytime TVegetables should note that Joey
Ramone and his mom, Charlotte will appear on an upcoming episode of
the Geraldo Rivera Show.
WAXED WEASEL Bullet Lavolta's Ep. Gimme Danger, will probably
put your eardrums in serious peril, but tum it up anyway, the live cover of
Kiss's Detroit, Rock City is worth it... If you dig the late 70s melodic pop
unk groove, check out Field Trip's latest, Headgear Chicago's Smash-
Ing Pumpkins have a wacky name and a 7-inch called I Am One, and
that's about all we can tell ya All you espresso drinkers better hustle
down to the record store and buy the new Jack Kerouac collection on
Rhino's Word Beat label... Busting first vinyl, L.A.P.D. (Love And Peace.
Dude) lay their chips on the table in the ever-growing Chiltallica white-boy-
funk-metal poker game... Four albums and still no ballad-Exodus keep
shaggin on their latest mach-speed release. Impact Is Imminent... Two
years after So Far, So Good So What. Megadeth has just finished a new
grinder. They'll hit the road in October to support this as yet untitled disc.
And speaking of mega, here's a megablast of new releases: The juicy
Apple by Mother Love Bone; the murderous Mator Cily soundin' I Kill Me
by Jeff Dahl Group (you know, the guy from the Angry Samoans.
Extricate by The Fall; Throttle's grungy thrash attack, Freaks (featuring
good of Chuck Treece on skins for half the songs), aggro Aussies, the
Trilobites angst ridden rocker. Savage Mood Swing Gods with Guns
funkarockarappa sell- titled debut Ep: Testament's tentatively titled but
definitely dominating Souls of Black (work still in progress); The Years of
Decay by Overkill: Amiee, Acrophet's screamin' Wisconsin-style thrash
metal slab, Faded Glory, The red-hot in The Red by C.I.A. (featuring former
Nuclear Assault drummer, Glen Evans). Whew! Notes bottom line
goes to Snuffs Lp Snuff Said, the best punk rock from England in almost
a decade. Snuff should be playing some U.S. dates this fall with equally
awesome Yankee crankers, Samiam. Yes, we like them, Samiam.
