HARDCORE OF YORE
I used to be a hardcore skater. Every day
my friends and I would skate as much ter
rain as possible, new or old. It's been a few
months since I've skated now. The sad thing
is that I'm not really missing it. I hardly talk
to any of my skater friends. When I do, they
tell me they pulled off some new rad moves
and I miss it for a while. What should I do?
Dave Mazle
Munhall, PA
Do what you want, fool. What do you
mean, "What should I do?" Skate or
don't. You don't even have to skate to like
it. If you enjoy skating, it enjoys you.
Skating gives back what you put into it.
Obviously, skating is not giving you the
enjoyment it used to, or vice versa. If
skating bums you out, then buzz off. If
you were meant to skate, you will. Bottom
line: Don't worry about it. End of story.
OLLIE GAB
I am 14 and was hardcore from 10 to 12,
but I got lazy and made a half. I've skated
a ramp so long I can't ollie anymore. It's so
embarrassing. The kids say, "Ollie, dude!"
and I can't. It makes me look like I don't
know crap about skating. What should I do?
Ollie Lovecrazed

You too can ollie. Simply send in for
Jaspro's new "Ollie Master." Buy it, put

it on your board, and away you go!
Seriously, who gives a duck's butt if you
can ollie or not? If you can't and it bums
you out so much, then you'll learn.
Spend enough time and effort and there's
nothing that can't be accomplished. So
when cries of, "Ollie, dude!" ring about
the town, lash back with, "Suck me
nude." It'll surely make them frown.
LIGAMENT LAMENT
I have a problem. I recently had surgery.
I had a ligament cut. It's been about two
weeks since surgery and my knee feels fine.
I went back to the doctor and he said I
shouldn't skate until I can lift 35 pounds. We
don't have a weight bench and my mom
doesn't want me to skate for three more
months. What can I do in the meantime?
Joel Domerese
Hancock, KY
Work it out, bro. Weight benches are
cheap and much worth their while. Wait
till that knee is one-hundred percent
healed before you hit the 'crete and you'll
be able to skate much longer with less
pain. Also, warm-ups and workouts are
a good idea prior to and after skating.
with or without injuries.
IN MATURITY
Everyone comes down on me because
I'm 18 and I skate all the time. My folks say
it's time I put away my skate and "enter the
adult world." Just exactly what is the adult
world? Look at Stacy Peralta. Look at Lance,
and Cab, and look at you. You guys have
all entered this "adult world" thing. You!
guys still skate. I respect that, man. I've held
my ground on this for a long time, but you
gotta reassure me. Can't you be voting age
and still skate?
Brandon Riza
San Francisco, CA
Age ain't shit! As long as I can stand
on a skateboard, I'm going to skate.
Anyone else who is a true skater will do
the same. Don't even listen to these
jokers when they make innuendoes
about being too old to skate. The heart
of skating isn't how much you skate, or
how good you skate, or even how old you
are, it's the feeling you get from skating-
the feeling only a skater can relate to.
Entering the adult world usually means
there's going to be less time to skate. My
time is mostly accounted for, but I
manage to skate several hours a week
and still do the adult thing. Your skating
should not be influenced by people who
don't know what's going on anyway.
What I mean is, you know what's up, so
don't let 'em tell you otherwise.
